Someone Looking for a Hodden Grey Kilt?
Just listed on ebay UK Hodden Grey Kilt ex London Scottish
Label says waist 33 and breech 40, length 27 starting at GBP69.99
Know there was a thread about same very recently but can't find it.
Don't know how to put link in but I searched under "Scottish Military"
A bit slim for me, but someone may want it

I think it may have been Josh.
To post the link, I just highlight the web page info (http//www.......) Go to Edit and click Copy then when I get to my post here click Paste. Shazam! it's there
More computer savy people may have a quicker way, but that works for me.
Hope that helps.

My heart leaped when I saw this thread. Back in the 70s when I was in my 20s, I used to check the offerings at the big surplus store, Hercules, on Yonge St. in Toronto. One day I found, up on the discount floor, a table covered in the strangest kilts. They were a kind of browny, heathery, grey, and they were $25 each. I had no idea what they were, but loved the look of them. Though I was an adventurous dresser, I couldn't justify spending sooo much on a whim, so I didn't even try to find my size. I learned years later that they were Hodden Grey kilts from the Toronto Scottish, and may have been from the disbanding of their boys' unit. I tell myself that none of them would probably have fit me anyway.
But, I have long had this idea that someday one will fall into my life, and thought today might be the day. But nope, the one on ebay won't fit. A couple of inches too tight, and a couple of inches too long. Drats. It's fun to have an old dream rekindled, though.

The 'mysterious' black stitches that the seller refers to are in fact the stitches which once held the left apron edge/deep pleat to the other pleats! This kilt would need to be repaired before it could be worn.
I also find this listing very curious as a member on another forum purchased an identical kilt just last year: exact same size (33/40) date of manufacture (1948)...

Also strange, is that he has raised the base bid price to GBP99.99, 30 quid above what he originally listed it as. He justifies this by saying that there are 30 watchers for it on ebay and he is getting a lot of interest in it. Still no bids though. Maybe he is a lurker here or on of the other sites that it has been mentioned on

It's my size but I can't afford it right now.
I have the know how to repair it and everything but I am afraid 99 pounds plus 30 shipping is too much.
