A 12th Century "Castle" in Arizona

Was down in the Wupatki National Monument today - out at Wukoki Pueblo. Wukoki is Hopi for "Big House." This place is accurately named. Was built and occupied in the 12th century.

There's a beautiful view of the San Francisco Peaks from one of the levels.

And down a dirt road about six miles away is a place called Black Rock Falls Crossing of the Little Colorado River.

The river was dry but the black volcanic rocks made it look like a river of black rocks. No clue where the falls are - not near the crossing.

Always look forward to the posts of your adventures. Can count on them containing beautiful vistas. Have recently started doing my hiking kilted and as most things I now do while wearing a kilt this site and those here have been the initial inspiration to do so. Keep the great pictures coming.

Riverkilt: My wife and I visited the Wupatki ruins during the bicentennial celebration of 1976. We also climbed Sunset Crater (two steps forward, one step back) before the trail was closed, and did our first-ever skiing at the Snow Bowl in the San Francisco Peaks. Your pictures brought back memories. Thanks.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

You're welcome...I've been driving past Wupatki for over ten years...finally had "time" to pull in and explore.
