    That's ONE!

    Well lads,

Had a VERY good time throwing in Alma, and no one had to shag my cartilage! Seems like the idea of being patient, taking care not to push my injuries and compete at about 75% works. No additional problems to anything and I had a blast. A little bit of angst about not seeing my numbers where they should be--but a small price to be able to keep throwing. I think I can do this.

I have two weeks until the next one--plenty of time to keep healing and maybe even get in a few light practice days.

Great News! That is very encouraging. I practiced for the first time yesterday since December. I had a slight cardiac detour in January. Good Luck in a few weeks.

The hardest part about working through an injury was knowing I could do better, and understanding better would make it worse. Wish I would have realized it at a younger age. Wonderful to hear that you are doing well.

Great to hear you had fun, and that continuing is still a possibility.

I had a long talk with Francis Brebner on Sunday, while we were watching my class in WOB. Francis says he is "wrecked", and he walks with a limp. It's clear that he would love to keep throwing, even at 75% but he just can't. Why? Because during his heyday....

    sit down for this...

he did FIFTY GAMES A YEAR. That's right, 50.

Throwing at 75% crank is better than not throwing at all. Guid on ye.

What a sorry gaggle of geezers are we.

Torn between doing what we love and not doing what breaks us down. I'm reminded of an old blues lyric that goes "The doctor said it'd kill me but he didn't say when..."

That being said, I threw the hammers today in a local park. It was only the fourth time I've thrown since the "Raisin Games" in Selma last September.

In deference to the medical opinions, I'm now down to 225 lbs and am attempting to make better food choices with respect to the salt that appears to be in everything. My echo cardiogram suggested this would be a wise course for me to follow.

@DPete: All we can do is all we can do, right?

Nice one! Yup, keep on it! Just don't push yourself too much.
