Here's a real teaser for the shortest month.
What do I see? Not bloody much! I see a twill weave. I believe I see faded colours and regular shaped scraps so I would guess that this material was old when someone decided to repurpose it for another project.

Sometimes there is very little to work with and one has to use all ones skill and knowledge to make sense of what one sees and sometimes one is just stumped.
I see the number 8. (is this like one of those psych tests where they show you an ink blot and ask you what you see?)
Also, I think there might be some ribbons or string tied on in places.

Could this be tartan used to make an outline of a number on a sports jersey or some sort of banner, with the 8 being the number and the strings the threads used to sew the tartan onto whatever backing was utilized?
