    I hate to do it, but I have to go kinda mainstream and say Ambrose Burnside...c'mon, the dude's name was almost Sideburn! Heck, that mutton-chop mustache combo looks like it could double as a flotation device.

    I think the most "Hardcore" looking guy was Sherman.

    On a side note, out here in my neck o' the woods I've noticed a booming popularity of the Lincoln type beard (beard, no 'stache).
    The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

    I would have to go with Abram Wakeman. Kinda like the Amish/Lincoln look the man is sporting.
