Hello from NC
I've been lurking/reading/learning on the site for the past month or so an; knowing that I've caught the kilt wearing bug I decided I should join up and introduce myself.
I've been living in Waynesville NC for the past 9 years having moved here from Scotland; born in Helensburgh but lived most of my teenage though to mid/late 20s in the small town of Largs.
One of the first question I'm asked when people realise my origins is "do you wear a kilt?" to which my answer so far has been no. However, I'm getting married in September and of course decided that I need to get myself kilted up for the big day.
Now that I've been reading up on the subject I've found myself getting more and more interested and I know that after the wedding I'll be introducing the kilt as part of my everyday wardrobe (I'd be wearing it already but the wife-to-be said it would be like her wearing her weddng dress before the day).
It's good to be here and I expect to keep on learning

Welcome! I wore my kilt at my wedding. It was already well worn.
Say, you're just a couple hours from Grandfather Mountain. Highland games coming up real soon now.

from South Wales UK!
Perhaps you should point out to your wife that the kilt can be worn for many occasions besides just a wedding
Wedding dresses tend to get worn only the once.

When I told her about my plans to wear the kilt after the wedding I got a look so we'll see how that goes I'm sure she'll grow to like it, end of the day she has no choice
Several months ago (St. Patrick's day) I was talking to friends of ours who part-own one of the local pubs and they were asking me why I wasn't celebrating. My response was that no one in the US celebrates St. Andrew's day and so I wouldn't go partying for St. Patrick's day (the real reason was that I'd simply forgotten). As such, this year they are going to be holding a St. Andrews celebration at their pub... if nothing else it'll give me the perfect opportunity to introduce the town to the kilt.

from the steaming midlands of South Carolina!
If you haven't found them yet, the Scottish Tartans Museum is just down the road in Franklin. Their gift shop has all the answers and most of the highland wear that you could desire!

It's been a few years since I've been to Franklin; 2003 if memory serves. Great place to pick up some Irn-Bru. Might be heading out that way again in the near future to look for a luckenbooth, though I'm going to try the store in Asheville first as I'm in the direction more often (plus I'm curious to see if the owner really is as bad as I've read).
Thanks for the welcome.

I've changed my mind; Franklin it is for the luckenbooth as from what I understand the owner (or is it director?) is a member here and I'd rather support them. That was an easy decision to make
