Scottish soldier

ok, I hope that is it!! It should be a photo of a young and dashing young laddie in a kilt from about WWI era. I would love to trace him to his regiment. Honestly, I would love to trace him but I will settle for his regiment. Here's what I know so far...a friend found the picture in an antique shop in Hillsboro, Oregon and sent it to me in Maryland. I can just make out his shoulder titles and think the first one says Canada and the second may say British Columbia. I think his cap badge is of the 72nd Battalion of the Seaforth Highlanders which was raised in 1910 in Vancouver, BC.
Thanks for all the welcomes! I have been on this site a few times when my son was getting ready for his first Scottish Highland dance competition on the Queen Mary a few years back. Now I am turning to you guys and your knowledge again. I am currently working on a master's degree in public history and want to research old military photos for a living. Thanks again for all the help! Heidi

Hi Kiltwatcher,
I'm no expert but I will hazard a guess at the two boys - I can't really see the old photo well enough to even guess.
The taller boy looks like he's wearing Black Watch - it's fairly common and is a universal kilt, so it's a likely candidate. The shorter boy looks like a Gordon, but that's really more of a guess that an opinion.
They're a couple of handsome boys. Is this a recent picture or have they grown since then?

I wish the vintage photo was clearer; then we could see his collar badges and know for sure!
But if he's a member of a Scottish Scottish regiment (as opposed to South African Scottish, Canadian Scottish, etc) it has to be either the Seaforth Highlanders or the Gordon Highlanders, the only two kilted Scottish Highland regiments to have the three-colour dicing on their Glengarries.
Both wore red & white hose.
Someone familiar with modern tradition will see the loops on the garter flashes and say "this must be a Gordon" but just now I looked at a load of photos of both regiments from that period and both sometimes had their garter loops belled, both sometimes not.
The fact that the garters have two loops, rather than one, hint at the Seaforth Highlanders.
But the kilt and cap badge look more Gordon to me.

You are correct on your kilt hunch! I just attached the photo of my boys to show them off. Sorry that I wasn't clear before. The old one if the one that I am researching. Thanks for looking though! Heidi
