Beautiful, thank you.
To the OP, I'm also planning variations on this theme, as inspired by the talented Mrs. Newsome:

okay, time to stir the pot some more.
Flashes. I have solid red, solid black and solid dark blue. as well as some black watch pattern flashes. So if I wear the green hose, I can wear the blue flashes, or black or black watch as they match the colours of the tartan. Blue hose leaves me black or black watch, but I think they will get lost in the colour of the hose. I had thought about wearing the red with the blue, but why would I do this? Is it a common practice to have flashes that really stand out and don't match the tartan at all? Red with the green hose is out because I feel I would look like a Scottish Christmas elf.
Need some answers by tomorrow as I will be wearing it then.
Thanx!

Wear the red flashes. They don't have to match or coordinate with anything. They will add, wait for it, a flash of colour with ANY of your hose.

I would go with the red, but arange them so only 1/2" to 3/4" of fringe is showing.
Beware the matchy-match disease so common in North America we don't even recognize it as a disease state. Though it is an effort for (many/ most) North American males, as a minimum try stepping your game up from matchy-match to coordinate/ contrast. At the pro level you toss everything up in the air so it makes a pile on the carpet and don the pieces that land on top.
FWIW folks here who actually live in Scotland are largely getting by with only two pairs of flashes in their wardrobes; one pair bright red, one pair bright blue.
I encourage you to park on a high bandwidth conenction and scroll through some of the picture threads here. Search for instance on 'Rothesay' as in Duke of, there is a thread more than 10 pages long, lots of pics in it of a very well dressed gentleman you will probably recognize.

I have noticed the "dress to coordinate" attitude in the US, and I suffer from it too. I always end up in a solid shirt that compliments my kilts in some way as well as socks/hose/shoes. I have seen pictures of guys in kilts with a football (soccer) shirt that would be a massive clash here in the states.
I'll probably go with the blue hose and red flashes.

The red flashes will always work.

Yes, the red CAN work, depending on the shade and how much you show. Against dark hose, less is more. Look around the site, including the photo threads on TCHD, if you look with an unjaundiced eye, you'll see the proof that the fact something IS done doesn't constitute proof that it SHOULD be done, and as well just because it's done in Scotland doesn't mean it SHOULD be done anywhere. Many examples considered normal clash as vigorously as a Jimi Hendrix solo inserted into a piece by Vivaldi. Which is not to say Schoenberg can't be beautiful, it's more that not every orchestra can make it so. Not matchy-matchy (a term I wish would vanish), but respectful of context. There are shades of red hose that work with many, if not most, tartans. There some that don't work with any. Many red and most black hose are much more shocking to the eye than white hose, though it's easier to balance white. It's physics, not taste
You are free to make any choice you want, and I have been known to make my share of "interesting" choices. I'll just say again: matching is not necessary, or even, often, desirable, but matching trumps clashing without exception. And should you insist on making certain choices, you need to focus on being larger than life, or more present than usual to carry it off.

I think I agree with you. Hendrix's original ideas would very much clash with Vivaldi's repetition of the same 4 or 5 themes.

When given a choice, most people will choose.

An excellent observation, though you're judging Vivaldi by today's standards, not those of his time, and that's rarely appropriate or germane. Still excellent music. Jimi was many things, musically, and I loved him and his music. Hearing/seeing him live was astonishing. I'm not sure he'll be as loved or played 200 years from now as Vivaldi.
Also, maybe unique is a better word for Jimi. What he did grew out of what went before, like most forward movement of music. Either way, huge talent. Huge pain, huge heart, gone too soon.
