Cheers,
For me the staghorn might limit the waistcoat to daywear, and I think a tartan waistcoat is just the bees-knees as far as evening wear is concerned. So I wouldn't want to exclude that possible usage. Just my 2c.

Michael

Michael,
He originally mentioned a tweed jacket being worn with the tartan waistcoat, or perhaps being worn alone, thus making it day attire, which in my opinion, staghorn style (imitation or real) buttons look best. If he wants to wear a tartan waistcoat for evening attire, then I would suggest a 3 button style, with lapels, cut on the bias, with silver buttons, and 2 welt pockets. I like to see day attire waistcoats in the 5 button variant - tartan cut straight or on the bias, without lapels, and 4 welt pockets. Just my two cents as well!

Slainte,
Aah, true Kyle. Ok, well in that case... Hmmm, well actually, I still think the tartan buttons would look great! ;) But yup, for daywear staghorn, good choice.
How about making them (either way) detachable, as someone else mentioned, then you could have the luxury of silver, horn OR tartan buttons!
As for the 3 button thing, I do like lower-cut waistcoats (with bow-tie), but a nice high-cut waistcoat, could look great with a jabot and sherrifmuir for example (even with it's tartan buttons!) ;)
Ok, now I've had a total of 4c, but ok.
Cheers!
Michael

Hahaha! You are indeed up to 4 cents now (as am I!)! I agree with you; the jabot and five button tartan waistcoat look superb with a Sherrifmuir, or any other 'open' style evening doublet - however I do not like the jabot and high waistcoat with the Regulation Doublet - my opinion of course, as an avid wearer of the latter style of evening doublet.
I like the idea of removable buttons, which could indeed work. I am a former U.S. Marine, and I recall my dress blue blouse have removable anodized metal buttons, which could easily be removed for cleaning of the buttons and/or the blouse. Perhaps the same method could be applied the waistcoat in order to create more versatility? Good idea - that could have saved me quite a bit of money a while ago!
Cheers mate - good chat,

Cheers mate - good chat,
Ok, this has officially just become a hijack. But I can't contain myself... I actually ordered my Regulation Doublet today!!! Matching, 3 button waistcoat. One day... a lovely tartan waistcoat on the bias (3 buttons, or 4... a la JSFMACLJR!).
Cheers!

Thanks for the side discussion folks. I already own a three button deep neckline wasitcoat in black that matches my kilt cut satin lapeled black jacket. With my pleated tux shirt and black silk bowtie I am "already ready already" for evening wear, just add kilt, hose and flashes.
While I would love to order two bias cut waistcoats, I am not in a position to have everything I want.
