No Sporran:
Just throwing some ideas out.

I like it. Your modern take almost looks a little bit steampunkish, in an understated way.

The leather kilt sans sporran definitely takes the rest of the outfit squarely out of the traditional. Looks good!

I agree. With the sporran, it's more of a semi-traditional look. I have to say that as a man who has embraced modern kilt wear, as well as traditional, I like it. I like it a lot, as a matter of fact.

With or without the sporran the leather kilt in question, in my humble opinion, cannot in any way be described as traditional. For a start it has a pocket! Come on chaps don't let our already slipping standards slip any more! Nice perhaps, modern it is, historical maybe, traditional never! I think that the OP should be congratulated for being realistic.
Please let us not complicate things even more by using, yet another, heading of "semi-traditional", whatever that is supposed to mean.

I really like the look of that kilt better with the sporran. In my (admittedly narrow) mind, a kilt needs some type of "detail" in the front, in order to look like a kilt. A sporran, or the patterns of snaps or buttons used on many contemporary kilts, something. That second picture looks sharp. That's similar to the way I might wear a contemporary kilt for "nice, but casual" evening wear.
Have Fun,
Tom

I agree. Even with the pockets, the sporrran is neccissary. In pic 3, it looks like something is missing.
