I replaced mine with thistle embossed hallmarked silver buckles, which I purchased whilst in Edinburgh. I know you can find similar buckles on ebay, Highland Xpress, House of Labhran, L&M Highland Outfitters, Burnett's and Struth, etc. Some of the said buckles come with leather tongues to be attached to a pair of ghillies, you can simply remove those, and then insert the black snap part that originally came with your buckle brogues - basically 'transfer' that component to the new buckles, this is what I did in order for the new buckles to actually 'snap' onto the buckle brogues. The new buckles, whether thistle or celtic embossed, or antique 18th-19th century style buckles, will definitely enhance your buckle brogues - far better than the standard, plain metal buckles that are as thin as razor blade (well, maybe not that thin, lol!)! I am sure the rabble may have other suggestions. Good luck.
Cheers,
