    Burns Supper Information #4

All guests will receive a welcome pack upon arrival- it will contain all the information about the weekend. All the information included this page will be in the welcome pack. (So you do not need to print this and bring it with you- it will be waiting in your room at Ferintosh.)

    ____________

    Dumfries Pubs

There are 54 pubs in Dumfries... Here are some pubs we recommend.

The Globe Inn- est. 1610 - a Must See for tourists - good food - great malt whisky selection - very friendly to people & dogs alike. Address: 56, High St, [01387 252335]

The Coach and Horses - good pub - Dog Friendly- People Friendly - real fire. A few excellent malts. Address: 66 Whitesands, [01387 256224]

The Cavens Arms - great pub (Dumfries Pub of the Year) - but often too crowded - great food and several real ales, good malt selection. Not Dog Friendly - No children - excellent service and very friendly staff. Address: 20, Buccleuch St, [01387 252896]

The Fleshers Arms - good pub - the owner Marion is very friendly - pool table - karaoke on Sat - the pub is dog friendly. Address: 48 Loreburn Street, [01387 256461]

The Hole I' The Wa'- est. 1620 - another great historic pub – some rough locals- karaoke every night. Address: 156 High Street, [01387 252770]

The Last Post - a great friendly wee pub - best looking bar staff in town - dog friendly - cheapest jukebox in town - 10p per play. Address: 38, Academy St, [01387 249045]

The Lyver - a classic quirky 'dive' in the best sense of the word - this is a great pub - the best juke box in town. Address: 181-183 St. Michael Street, [01387 256477]

The New Bazaar - best malt whisky selection in town - friendly wee place - dog friendly - real fire. Address: 39, Whitesands, [01387 268776]

Dickie's - good pub - big screen for racing and other sport. Address: 48-50, English St, [01387 254754]

Robert The Bruce (JD Wetherspoon chain) - beautiful building - very popular with young people - bad service – very inexpensive food and drink. Address: 1 Buccleuch Street

The Ship Inn - good pub- friendly staff - dog friendly - good locals. Address: 97, St. Michael St, [01387 255189]

The Tam O'Shanter – est. 1630. good classic pub - friendly locals- dog friendly. Address: 113-117 Queensbury Street, [01387 254055]

The Waverly Bar - good pub- locals betting on horses- dog friendly,k food available. Closest pub to Ferintosh- just up the hill. Address: 48 Lovers Walk, [01387 247878]

Aberdour Hotel - good wee hotel bar - good food- average service. More of a resturant than a pub. 18 Newall Terrace [01387 252060]

Station Hotel - great selection of malt whisky and a nice place - but service is very slow and often unfriendly...prices are a bit too high… and they want you to pay £5 just to park your car!

Well, I now (finally) have my airline tickets. The weird news is that due to an interesting flub by my travel agent for about 12 hours I had TWO airline tickets. The good news is that it was easily corrected even though they were non-refundable tickets.

The even better news is that I'm in one fell swoop paying $700.00 less than I paid last year AND I'm avoiding both British Airways and Heathrow Airport.

Amsterdam here I come. (Gee, is there a redlight district at the airport? I hope not as I may not make it or even remember the weekend. )

I'm so very looking forward to seeing old friends and making some new ones. See you all on Ferintosh 2008 Burns Weekend 2.
