I was given a present for my 40th of a handmade kilt in my clan tartan.
That was 7 years ago.

I was 5 or 6. I used to have a passion for military music and loved the pipes and drums in particular. A friend of our family was a piper and he sent away to scotland for a junior sized Macdonald Kilt that was up for grabs in his family. I remember I was over the moon and used to march up and down with the pipes blaring on the stereo and my little kilt swinging away. After I grew out of it I never wore a kilt again until a couple of years ago.
I've never looked back since then really.

It was 9 years ago, so I was 39. My wife bought me a sport kilt during a backpacking trip.

I strapped on a kilt for the first time on May 17th, 2002... sometime in the late afternoon, as I recall. I graduated high school the following day. I was 17.
EDIT: The kilt in my avatar is the one in question above, though its had about 14 inches taken out of the waist since I first recieved it.

26. Sometime in August 2002. I used to be a daily kiltwearer, but, have lately slacked off, mainly because I'm doing a lot of auto repair projects lately, and partly because I've grown a little in the wrong way, so one of my kilts doesn't fit anymore, and the other two have to be fastened on the next notch in the strap. Essentially, you're more likely to see me in dreaded shorts nowadays. This summer, I do plan to get back down to a smaller size, so said kilts fit properly again.

It's my one and only kilt that keeps my weight in check, though it has been let out once a few years ago. I'm told that it can't be let out a second time so, when I pass a vending machine, this lil' kilted guy on my shoulder stops me from putting my 50p in the slot!

I first wore a kilt at the age of 24 at a Scottish friend's wedding.

My first memory of being kilted is around 3 at a band parade. Both my parents are pipers and my mother had a wee kilt made for me when I was very young - probably around 2 judging by the size of it - possibly younger. I've been told I used to march with the band in my kilt (a Royal Stewart) and hairy sporran.
When I grew out of it it disappeared and only reappeared when my mom handed it to me late last year for my own son, Lochlan, to wear when he's big enough. Both kilt and sporran are still in great shape.
While he's not been properly kilted yet, my son has already been wrapped in a various lengths of tartan since not long after birth. He's also sported a broad bonnet I made as well as a diced balmoral and make-shift kilt for a picture or two. I look forward to getting him into my old kilt as soon as it fits.
