Kilted Friday!
Went to deliver some chairs to a woman who bought them online from me. She asked about my kilt and if I was wearing it for the whole month. I told her I wear it 2-3 times a week. She then mentioned a friend of hers is a police officer and is participating in Kilted to Kick Cancer. Did an XMarks search and found this thread....great to raise awareness of prostate cancer, much as MLB does during Father's day weekend at the ball yard.
Then off for coffee and a quick look around an antique store nearby.
After that, went out to several thrift stores in search of Harris tweed jackets and found several, unfortunately none in my size. Third time I've run across an Orvis branded HT jacket in the last week. These guys were all just too small! Did find my son a nice viyella shirt in a green generic tartan. About $100 at Orvis. $2.99 at Salvation army on sale day! (50% off $5.99)

Thank you for the information on Kilted to Kick Cancer. I have ordered a shirt. I will have to begin wearing my kilts on Fridays. I look for as many reasons as possible to wear my kilts and now this gives me another reason. I shall let you know how next Friday goes. Cheers.

The Mighty She Who Must Be Obeyed is out of town with auld U chums for the weekend, so our Scottie and her master elected to have take-away pizza and a couple beers for evening repast.
Local Whole foods has a good mix-em'-up make-fresh-in-a-half hour brick oven pizza availability, so went to pick it up in the new Tactical Duty Kilt and nylon pouch "sporran" like in the 5:11 video. (BTW, the pouch is overpriced but quality and commodious)
No one among the everybody-MUST-wear bluejeans crowd looked askance or commented on the kilt, tho the store was well populated with latter day hippies, soccer moms, varied Chicago burb guys and a smattering of sprogs.
Pizza was good, too. Wore the kilt for the 2nd Scottie walk of the night tho, dang, it's cool tonite. Mebbe another frost?

New kilt for Kilted Friday Adventures!
I bought a MacLachlan hunting acrylic second hand from Mikilt and it arrived today. Put it on and first thing my wife said was that it was "clownish" and "too Christmasy". Note that I normally wear a wool black watch kilt. Headed out for a walk with the dog. Normally I get no response, but today two different women at the dog park commented. One said "hey Scottish!" and the other said "nice kilt". Later I took one of my daughters to buy some earrings. The woman behind the counter was very positive about asking me about kilt wearing and when I told her I wear them frequently and not just for occasions, she was positive. Then she told me about her and her husbands very interesting trip to Scotland. She's a MacLeod. Got some good travel info there.
My take is that the very bright green, red, yellow, and blue tartan stands out more than the black watch and got more comments. Overall, a nice Friday kilted.

Reading through this thread inspired me to follow suit (thank you Mael, by the way), so today I came to work wearing my only kilt, a casual 5 yard Wallace Modern. The day started with me dropping my 16mnth old daughter off at daycare, where another father said to my daughter "your daddy's wearing a skirt." .... I smiled briefly and said nothing, and tried to remember that it wasn't going to be an omen for the day to come.
And it wasn't! So far the reaction from my colleagues has been mixed. Some have tried to be humorous ("Hey, nice skirt!"), some have been supportive ("I love the outfit, I've got scottish roots too"), one seemed to be venturing into dangerous territory ("I hope you're wearing underwear", to which I responded "Are you seriously asking me what I'm wearing beneath my kilt?" - he backed-peddled quickly), and one was virtually speechless. That was just plain funny. However my supervisor was very supportive and positive. I haven't heard a peep from any of the managers at this point, so if this positive air continues, I might be able to make Friday my regular Kilt day too!
Cheers!!

I am preparing to head out to work. I am sporting my MacQueen tartan today with a wonderful turtleneck sweater. A top my cranium will be my navy blue Robert Mackie balmoral. I so love the fall weather!!

I usually wear a kilt when I am working on the ship as a docent. Always get good comments from the public.
