I always wear a kilt!
Go for it. I really enjoyed your story about church and I just wanted to post a note saying I've been wearing kilts primarily for the past 3 years. I have Scottish ancestry and everytime I saw the celtic games I always wanted a kilt but just never got around to it. Finally, being 52 (three years ago) and tattooed, pierced ear, etc my daughters thought I would look cool in a kilt. I, also, had a young lovely female tell me I should wear my kilt since at that time I had one. So, I took the plunge here in Florida. I really didn't think it would go here but let me tell you that since I stared I have had maybe one negative remark which I was able to turn around on the guy. A guy said that in his neighborhood he would be beaten up if caught wearing a kilt. I told him that you had to be a man to wear a kilt and that I stopped worrying about what my "buds" thought a long time ago. Like your experience in church (which I have to say I've not done yet, only because I'm not too good about going to church) I've had mostly wonderful responses from the women. The best is when a girl is walking with her boyfriend/husband and when she spots me she lags a half step so he won't see her give me a smile. Ya gotta love that. My mission has been to get more men used to the idea of making a kilt a viable option in what we wear. Most men my age say they wish they had the kahoonas to wear one. Here in sunny Florida a light weight kilt is ideal but you do have to watch the wind. The most common question I get is "what are you wearing under your kilt" as though it is ok to ask a perfect stranger that question. When a man asks that question I merely ask why he wants to know. That usually gets it turned into something funny and a good laugh is had by all. When women ask, well I take a different tack and am much less confrontational. Once in the grocery store a 79 year old woman came right out and asked me and as she giggled at what I told her she said no "good Scot" would be caught wearing anything. Ya gotta love women like that and at her age. The second most common question is "do I play the bag pipes?" Funny, most seem dissapointed when I tell them no.
Anyway, keep the faith and maybe someday the men of this country will finally realize that leaving the kilt on the rack is just plain wrong. That it truly takes a man to wear a kilt.

I hadn't really put that together but you're right about the bagpipe disappointment thing. Heck, we could lie. It's obvious that we don't have one with us. A lot of people don't want to hear it. It wouldn't be appropriate in the place where we're asked.
But, yes, they do seem disappointed.
Anyway, good for you. Don't lie.
