So far more than 25 people have gone out of their way to find me in the basement of the hospital where I work to (interrupt me and) stop by to see me in my kilt and ask what the special occasion was. Tartan Day has a long way to go to catch up to St Patricks day as a celtic ethnic holiday that everybody knows about. Only a couple asked "the question" which was adeptly sidestepped due to the nature of the place I work, the discussion isn't exactly appropriate in any capacity here.

By the way, wearing my Ancient MacDonald with a nice ancient blue sweater (jumper for those of you in the UK), ancient blue hose with Anc MacD tartan flashes, brown belt with matching celtic badged black/brown sporran and belt pouch, and my comfy brown working shoes. Left the Sgian Dhub at home as it is considered a weapon and not appropriate to bring to the hospital for open wear.

It is not like it is the first time I have worn a kilt to work, but I guess it still catches a lot of people off guard or incites their inquisitiveness. Only a couple stares in the lunchroom though, where the biggest crowds of the day were.

    Kilt Day

Went to church yesterday, five people showed up in kilts (3 men and 2 ladies) we were well received . Before church started we were standing outside, people were stopping in the middle of the street and coming out of their houses to take pictures. Father John had us come up front to explain why we were dressed in kilts. I was wearing the US Air Force kilt and received a lot of compliments on how "pretty" it was. One of the church ladies I've known for 50 years gave me a thumbs up. I'm 5ft 7 but I felt 10 feet tall. P.S. metal seats are cold!!!

I am working kilted today as usual: wearing my swk ancient mcrae and thinking about going to the pub. If you cant tell from my name I work on servers and they dont really care what we wear to work as long as we look neat.

I'm required to wear a uniform at work, so wearing a kilt was out of the question. I did bring my kilt to work and changed into it as soon as possible. I also wore my kilt hose and flashes while working. Although they didn't show, at least *I* knew I was wearing some tartan for Tartan Day.

Came to work in my Heritage of Ireland, and at about 10am I got a surprise as my Ferguson Modern (and miscellany) from Scotweb was delivered to desk! Promptly ran into the bathroom to swap gear.

Very well received, much better than I'd expected. Only a couple of people gave a "he's weird" look, everyone else was appreciative, despite assuming I play pipes :P

Same thing happened to me. I started my day out in my Highland Granite. Then the United States Postal Service was kind enough to deliver my brand new SWK Black Watch which I finished the day out in.

I have the day off tomorrow. Now my dilemna is figuring out which one to lounge about in....

Tartan Trews do seem to be a reasonable alternative. Especially if they are particularly garish.

As I mentioned in another thread, I actually did get to wear my SWK Thrifty Irish National out this morning (yay!). That helped make up for the fact I had to miss some of the festivities over the weekend.

Hubby and I are relaxing (he's wearing his SWK Standard Black Stewart) and enjoying a nice evening at home. It would have been nice to do a little more and have him kilted while we were out this morning, but maybe next year
