All is in readiness for a week of events

The Quaich was introduced at our SCD group, we danced a danced called "the Quaich"

The quaich has been doing the rounds of Scottish Country Dance groups here. Tomorrow it goes up the world famous Cradle Mountain, unless the roads are snow-bound.
I had a call from Colin MacLeod, he is from Scotland, living in Melbourne. He is one of the finest scottish fiddlers in the country. Colin is coming over here for an event next weekend, we will share the quaich at the event with all there.
He has made contact with the organisers of the National Celtic Festival at Portarlington, VIC. which occurs in June. (we will be attending) The festival is keen to have the quaich and promote it as an event at the festival.
Colin will be joining the forum and hopes to carry the Quaich to the festival. He plans to join this weekend, so watch out for him and please make him welcome.

Great timing Graham, as discussed I'll be out of the country for the Portarlington festival but I am sure the Quaich will be well received there.
Fantastic to see that you will be taking the Quaich to Cradle Mountain.

Cradle Mountain
We had a great day with the Quaich at the world famous Cradle Mountain. The National Park is only about 1.5 hours drive from where we live, but it did take longer today because of heavy snow falls last night.
A few folk thought I was brave doing a 2 hour walk around the lake in a kilt, but as you all know, it's the best and warmest garment to wear.

Leslie came with me, but sadly, none of my other tartan friends were able or fit enough to come.

Great photos Graham, looks as cold there as it is in Melbourne at the moment, well perhaps a little colder in your neck of the woods.

Re the quaich in tasmania.
Hello to Greame from An coigreach albannach.
I was fortunate to attend a very convivial quiach night in victoria(austr) organized by Down under kilt and am well pleased to see the quaich stravaiging through your island. That is where my father met my mother back when my Scottish grandfather was working as a fitter in the pulp mills near Burnie.
Events including Scottish country dancing and Rabbie Burns nights, along with hogmanys were enjoyed by them in affiliation with the local Caledonian society. My grandfather was always chosen as the first footer,in keeping with the ancient requirements of a good looking dark haired man for the task of wishing all within "best o luck and a guid new year".Is this society still up and going?
Does the heart good to think of you hiking kilted through chilly conditions to the cradle mount bay.Sad to think some Scots would stick to trousers and think you mad when thinking of a similar activity in these times of weaker wills and tenderer constitutions.I totally agree, the kilt is a well qualified garb for just this sort of thing in just those conditions!Well done to Down under kilt for getting it safely to you and again to xmts for generously sending the quaich abroad to be shared by all.
