I wish I could say that I am up and running with the new machine Ryan, but sadly I can't. I can receive emails it seems perfectly? But somehow I cannot reply to them! GRRRR. I have booked an hour with the local technowiz when I get back north tomorrow and hopefully I shall be up and running before long. For those from xmarks that are awaiting a reply to their emails----and there are more than a few----- please bear with me.

Yea! I suppose I should change my name here to "Laurence the Confused" as I have trouble with how everything here works. eg: can't get the avatar thing to take a pic of me from my computer! Exasperating! Right now, I'm confused about jackets in general; I'm picking up that there are special jackets (Prince Charlies?) that go with kilts!?! For lack of having anything else, and lack of $$$ to buy anything else right now, I've been using my regular suit jacket with my kilt (kinda substituting the kilt for the trousers) and seems to look ok to me. Any thoughts, anyone?

A regular suit jacket is generally too long to look appropriate with a kilt. While you figure out a acquire sufficient $$$ for a jacket consider a sweater, or with summer looming, just a dress shirt.

First of all, hurry slowly! Kilt attire can be expensive, I am ever thankful to my ancestors from whom I inherited much of my kilt attire, but not everyone is that lucky. Read thrice and spend once, in other words ask, read, ask, read and do it again until you know exactly what you might need for the style that you choose. There is quite a bit of kilt kit that is not really essential and some that is helpful overtime. In the meantime you have to go with what you have, your jacket will get you by as will a pullover(sweater) and those two options will get you by for any non-formal event. Good luck!

RE: Kilt jackets, yes, they are a thing and a whole other rabbit hole you can go down! They range from tweed daywear to formal doublets, but the common characteristic is that the body is shorter so that it does not interfere with the pleats of the kilt.

If you or someone you know is handy with needle and thread, one option is to alter a regular length blazer/sports coat/suit jacket and shorten the body to a kilt-friendly length. (Do a forum search for 'jacket conversion' and you'll find a lot of results.) If you keep an eye on your local thrift store you can pick up a perfectly good jacket for only a few (literally a few! Usually less than 10) dollars, so you don't have to sacrifice one you already have, and you're not out a lot of money if your first attempt goes awry.
