I have to wonder if any body has become interested in kilts by maybe seeing one as a costume?...

Last Halloween, as I have mentioned on this forum, I got up the nerve to rent a full blown, authentic, PC & Black Watch ensemble.....flashes, Ghillies, the whole enchilada. I wore it to work and my fate was sealed. The reaction of the employees and hotel guests was overwhelmingly positive. I have never had anyone react that positively to something I was wearing since my wedding day in my classic tuxedo. I have since purchased the Gordon 8 yarder, Argyle & PC jackets, and dress & daywear sporrans. My new personalized license plate says "SPORRAN" and I'm planning a trip back to Scotland. Did a "costume" influence me................a resounding "Yes!". There are cheaper pursuits, but I'm having too much fun with my kilt to care. I plan to wear my kilt in some manner this Halloween because it's another opportunity to show it off. Kilt on!

Personally, myself, I will be holding down the fort at home this Halloween, and I'm going to wear my faux Great Kilt and flouncy shirt and wide belt and carry My claymore and know full well that it's not historically accurate and I'm going to hand out candy to miniature princesses and Jedi warriors and kitty-cats and Spidermen and Zorro's.
The overwhelming majority of these kids and their parents will be Hispanic, from a couple of streets over. I am glad to see them walking...kids and parents to make sure things are OK, on my street. It's a time when the Hispanic community near me is welcome...not as "employees"...because many of the men are gardeners and many of the women are maids, around here....but as guests and part of the community. I'm GLAD they come to my door and I'm disappointed if we get a low turnout. I'm glad they feel it's safe here and a good place to come and have some innocent family fun.
BTW, the Luminous Joan has an orchestra rehearsal that night. I think she's going to rehearsal as Xena, Warrior Princess. This is the woman who generally thinks costumes and even non-costume kilts... Ren Faire, really anything out of the "USA norm", clothing and imagination-wise is ridiculous and not adult. This is Joan, the Type A Scientist and data manager for the largest human genome database in the world.
I will ATTEMPT to get pictures...LOL
