I wore my SWK MacLaren all day today. I spent all afternoon running various errands. I was waiting for people to ask about the kilt so I could tell them about Tartan Day, but no one asked. Oh well, at least I looked good today.

As I was leaving the building a young woman entering the elevator nearly got caught in the closing doors as she shifted position to see me walk by.
A co-worker remarked something to the effect (this is a family forum afterall) that it took a real man to wear a kilt, to which I readily agreed.

I wore my US Navy kilt, navy blue knee socks, blue sandals and a white celtic knot sweater to chorus rehearsal last night. These people all know me very well, but I have never worn a kilt to rehearsal before. Since they knew me, there were questions and comments....
Paul, "oh that's a pretty outfit" (me: it's a kilt)
Nancy, smiles several times, hand to cover her mouth (this is a lady that often wears a skirt).
Choir director at the beginning of choir "why are you wearing a kilt" me: "because it's National Tartan day and oh, BTW, I like kilts".
Bob: "where's the wig to go with that skirt"? He knew it was a kilt, but then he goes on to tell how he was a TV in highschool? Huh? a TV? Ya, he says he put on girl's clothing for some event and fooled them all. Then he says he did it one more time for some party. I am thinking I don't see how that is relevant here, but hey, I guess that's how he saw it.
On the way out after rehearsal I donned my auzzie hat and Nancy says "that's not Scottish"! Me: "I like to mix things up and create my own look". She said that was good....
We will see. I knew this wouldn't be the same as a visit to some anonymous bar. In my mind, I am breaking them in.... I have two nice utilikilts that I plan to spend most of my summer hours wearing -- unfortunately, we don't have "utilikilt" day yet. perhaps we should ask the Obama man for a new holiday for American kilt manufacturers.....
