It's the Battle of the Thingamabobs! Not quite the North Inch... yet.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Could more that one thing be going around? Seems we have a lot of folks in a lot of different places. Just a thought ...

That's a thought I had a little while ago too. I know a lot of members outside North America waited for an airship that never showed up. Maybe having a couple of items floating around would be a good thing. Perhaps one could start in Europe, one in Australia, etc. and they could all make their way around the world. At least then our friends overseas might not wait for years to get in on it. I'm not suggesting everyone start mailing trinkets around, but perhaps two or three would be okay. It's certainly not carved in stone that there can be only one!
The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

Me thinks we might be over thinking this and "forcing" the issue. As I see it, and I may be living ignorantly in the Romantic part of my brain, the real beauty of the Saltire that I think is being overlooked was that it was a "totem" that a member spontaneously developed and sent, allowing it to travel with the somewhat natural winds to direct it's course. It was the launching and travel of the Saltire that was the real prize. Not the Saltire itself.
Somethings you don't plan (especially in a committee or with a quorum). They just happen. This might be one of those things.

You're on the money there, The Saltire wasn't discussed, it just appeared and started on it's way. The symbols this forum has, the tartan, kilt pin, clan badge, etc. popped up pretty much the same way. Let's face it, this forum doesn't form a consensus very well, the three fruitless tries at the club tie shows that pretty well.

a nice wooden circular(to represent the world) plaque with a xmarks badge style motif on the front of it... tooled leather round the rim to protect it and a xmarks tartan material scotch guarded to protect the lifespan of the tartan either behind the motif or as a backer
i reckon each part eg the leather, wood ,tartan and motif come from different continents to show a item of unity
buy hey ho that's just my bit :P

Not to overstep Steve (as he can and SHOULD have the ultimate say as the owner)...
How about a POLL? What more democratic way can there be than THAT?
The ideas I am hearing with the most traction so far are:
1. A Quaich
2. A Flask
3. A wooden Xmarks Clan Badge
I personally think the Quaich would be the most fitting, but I would abide by ANY of the suggestions above if we voted and chose 1.

Before this thread is closed, and it too becomes part of our history, I feel that there should be some heartfelt thanks given to Jamie. His idea of the Saltaire and it's mission of spreading friendship among to our members cannot, should not, ever be forgotten or minimized.
Jamie, you are an inspiration to this forum. Your sense of playfulness got this forum through some really tough times.
The story of the Saltaire and the wee airship became a beacon to the membership of the forum and reminded them through its travels of the true meaning of this forum.
We all are here through a love of the kilt and the sharing of that passion that has brought us together.
All the members, and the forum itself, owe you a big debt for the countless hours, the dedication, and the inspiration you gave selflessly.
I for one thank you from the bottom of my heart and soul.
Enjoy your retirement XMAS Saltaire, It is well earned.
