A serious thread about hats with kilts in the USA

I'm not sure I can contribute much, but I will anyway, LOL!

Being of Irish extraction I often wear a caubeen, but the nearest thing to that in Scottish headwear would be a balmoral, which isn't really so different. If that's too hot I might go bare-headed, but I have long hair and have been spared baldness, so covering my head is not so big an issue.

I do own a couple of baseball caps, but I'm not sure I'd wear them with a kilt. One of them (the nicer one, I would say) has a brand of ham radio equipment on the front, whilst another one (not as nice, but it was also free) bears the name of a defunct ham radio magazine (see a pattern there?). Maybe if they had a more appropriate theme?

I also have a sort of Aussie hat with a brim that I suppose I could wear, but I that would only be called for if I had to endure strong sun all day.

That just looks AWESOME. Given that your build conjures up thoughts of Churchill, whereas mine might conjure up Laurel from Laurel and Hardy, I'd hesitate, but still consider it, if I could find a bowler to wear.

I imagine the bowler does have a season that's pretty short in the North East of the USA. I wouldn't wear it to the games, for example. I've seen them made of straw. . .

I'm a big fan of Tilley hats, but often wear an eight panel flat cap that used to be part of a Chautauqua tent in northern Wisconsin. I also occasionally wear a balmoral, and much less frequently a baseball type cap. I only wear a baseball type cap with the kilt while driving, and then typically only when the sun is low and to the side of the vehicle.
I own more hats and caps than any normal person might ever need, and wear whichever one takes my fancy that day. When kilted, I try to keep with a Tilley, balmoral or my eight panel cap. Once I find the right deer stalker, that might change quickly.
That said, I welcome you to wear the hat you are most comfortable with.
