I had a great Kilted Friday. I worked from home today, but tonight we went to our local theater to see a friend in their production of "Dracula". Prior to that, we stopped at KFC. It was a good excuse for me to try out my new accessories that I picked up from UT Kilts. I bought a white semi-formal sporran ("Designed in Scotland") and a black kilt belt and Celtic knot belt buckle. They were affordable, but decent for me as a venture into more traditional kilt looks.

I wore my Campbell Sport Kilt, a light blue Alfani shirt, and my black House of Cheviot Lewis hose, black hose garters, and black Stacy Adams loafers. I got compliments at both KFC and at the theater. One guy was very fascinated by my kilted look. He said he was interested in wearing one, but didn't have any reasons of heritage to wear one. I told him that the kilt is for everyone, and that I'm barely Scottish, but I still enjoy it.

    My look:

My boys have requested that I wear my kilt when picking them up, so going forward, Fridays are kilted Fridays. A woman at the bus station uptown asked me if my kilt was "authentic". I told her it wasn't made of wool and probably made in Pakistan if that's what she meant. She said she liked it all the same, that I looked "authentic", though she didn't like the polo shirt with the kilt. I guess she'd have preferred a Jacobite shirt, but I don't roll like that. Truth be told, I don't love polo shirts with my kilt either; I think button down looks better, but I've had a devil of a time finding shirts that look decent with the hose I've got. Working on it though.

My Kilted Friday was one of a 4-day run of Kiltedness! I attended the 45th Stone Mountain Scottish Highland Games in Atlanta. I had a pair of jeans in the trunk of my car for any emergencies and it stayed there for the four days.

Friday evening, I duded up for the Special Reception honoring the Honored Clan Chief Robin Malcolm. He is the distinguished looking fellow in the middle of my kinsmen.

    Of Kilts and Horses

A casual Friday. Decent enough weather for a long sleeve button down with brown leather. Some of my Regimental Mounted Troop folks around for their Friday public awareness vedette.

(I have to remember to close that dang sporran flap after I take the phone/camera out of it)

Taskr, seeing as you are in Edmonton and they are sitting on horses, am I right to assume LdSH? I can't quite see the cap badge well enough.

yes, they are. LdSH(RC); The Strathcona’s

for the others curious; Lord Strathcona and Mount Royal (driver of the last spike of the trans Canada railway) raised the Regiment for service in South Africa in 1900. Full title, Lord Strantcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians).

MacDonald Ranald (ancient) today with a blue/grey crew pullover and black sporran/wingtip boots. A cold, sunny snow covered, kilted Friday

Donald Smith (Lord Strathcona) was also married to Isabella Sophia Hardisty and was the Uncle of Lady Isabella Lougheed, wife of Senator Sir James Lougheed. I volunteer Sundays as a docent and tour guide at their Calgary mansion. Occasionally I am kilted but mostly in circa 1910 costume.

Kilted Tuesday, AKA worst selfie ever.

Popped down to the VAH to go over neuropsych results. A few charming compliments ensued, as well as the usual questions about affiliation. VA is as good a place as any to smilingly respond that the army is the closest thing this old Swedish-Welsh-American has to a clan.

My speech therapist was perhaps the most startled. "What's that you've got on?!"

    "Socks."

Lewis hose in ancient blue, FTR, though my arm wasn't long enough to include them in the shot. Still need to find a page buckle that I like, and snap it onto that old work belt for casual wear.

    Cheers,

    Jack
