You don't see it often because it puts all other tartan to shame. But I could be biased.

Well, it's a little off the topic of kilts, but...
LiveJournal has a community of and for corset makers who might have something helpful to say on the topic.

I've found, for most clothes really, that nothing takes the place of simply trying them on. None of the standard sizing makes sense to me. A size 10 in one brand fits me perfectly, whereas in another brand it is huge.
With the corsets, there is always some room for error with the back lacing. And therein lies the fun. Take someone shopping with you to do the laces!
Be well,

Soon I should be able to start work on a new set of 18th century stays, after that I'm considering investing in some metal boning and making an everyday corset for the back support.

Ok I thought I'd post some pictures of the various ladies who come out on our kilt nights here in Arizona. We normally just let the ladies know to wear some plaid, and they seem to figure out the rest.

Mrs Courtmount wears an Arisaid to Highland functions. I don't have a photo of her that I can post but I will put in a few links to sights that have similar designs:

Mrs Courtmount's is probably more like the 3rd, Misty Thicket one. Its an entirly DIY outfit. The dresses she wears with it are a white antique Victorian lace night gown, a light blue boys dish dash that I bought in Oman and a light blur ladies dish dash with embroidery which she bought in Eygypt.
Its tied at the waste with a long belt which hangs down at the front and she wears a leather pouch to keep her 'ammo' in. She does it up at the neck with either a celtic pin or a small plaid brooch or kilt pin which forms the hood.
We've never seen anyone else wearing one, which I think is a shame but I suspect she thinks is a good thing, being a lady she would not be happy if other turned up in the same outfit as her.
The 'Eathen in his idleness bows down to wood and stone,
'E don't obey no orders unless they is his own,
He keeps his side arms awful,
And he leaves them all about,
Until up comes the Regiment and kicks the 'Eathen out.

As has been pointed out many times on this board, not ALL Scottish garments, and not even all kilts are made from tartan cloth. Look at Matt Newsome's elegant tweed kilts, for example.
Well, if a man can wear a tweed kilt, why can't a woman wear a tweed skirt? Sure, this picture is of a nice thin twnty-something model wearing a miniskirt, but I could very easily see this done at knee length. IN fact, thes pleats look much like box pleats, to me though I bet they're knife pleats.

I think most of you lasses might enjoy this ladies site.
http://whatiwore2day.blogspot.com
The woman is not a model, has really good, but "normal" taste, and had a budget in mind. She buys a lot of stuff at thrift shops or on sale.
Look at this archive: http://whatiwore2day.blogspot.com/20...1_archive.html
You'll find this,
and this...same skirt, different blouse and shoes than I put up here, before. This woman has "color" figured out.
