    You're most welcome, Brian.

By the way, in my discussions with folks in the Iowa Scottish community, the Iowa "dress" tartan doesn't seem to be as popular as the standard Iowa tartan. The Waukee High School Pipe Band, for example, wears the Iowa tartan. I've seen only one other picture of a gentleman in an Iowa kilt (besides myself), and it is also in the standard tartan (mine is more ancient colours) -- I've also seen a number of ladies wearing it in skirts, sashes (my mother included) and so forth.

LOL - I agree. I was planning on setting up the poll thread tonight after work or tomorrow morning, now that we've all had a chance to think about it for awhile.

OK, everyone, a poll has been posted. Before anyone howls about the fact that I've set it to end in 3 weeks because we've already taken too long, I just want to make sure that anyone who wants to vote has plenty of time to make up their mind.

Make sure you encourage anyone who you think might be interested - especially New Yorkers - to visit this thread, if they haven't already, so they know what we're doing and how we arrived at the options posted AND to VOTE!!

If anyone wants to continue the discussion here, particularly as regards how to proceed and who to approach during the process, please do so.

    Thanks,

    Brian

In just over a day and a half we've had 17 votes in the poll. Looks like people are noticing it, but if anyone knows of any members from New York it might be good to let them know about these threads in case they aren't already aware of them. The more people involved the better the choice will be.

    Thanks,

    Brian

(It'd be really nice if we had a way of sending a mass PM to all New York members, but I don't know as that's even possible.)

I know polling has already begun, but in all honesty, the more I look at them, the less excited I am about any of them....

I made a couple of other designs, but, without the backing/input of the NY St. Andrews Society, I rather doubt that the NY XMarks members really have the clout to push any design through....

Remember though: there is more than one Scottish/Caledonian/St. Andrew's Society in NY, and no one body "speaks" for all of them.

    http://www.standrewsny.org/

I would say that represents the state.....

    You're not understanding my point.

There are many Scottish organisations across NY; while the St. Andrew's Society of New York may be the oldest, the other groups may or may not be affiliated with them. That would be like claiming the Kansas City St. Andrew's Society speaks for all Missouri Scots because it is the oldest (founded in 1914) or the St. Louis groups speaks for the Springfield society because it is in the largest city in the state.

What about the NY Caledonian Club? The NY Burns Club? The St. Andrew's Society of the Adirondacks? Schenectady?

While united in a common mission, each is independent in terms of governance. You can't just contact one and expect instant recognition.
