    Overhead Press

    General warm up stuff

    lbs/sets/reps

    75x1x5
    95x2x3
    105x1x3
    110x1x2
    115x1x1
    120x2x1
    110x1x3
    95x1x5

I took a flyer on 125 between the 120 singles but it's not quite there yet; it's close though.

Finished with some easy lats, traps, and triceps

The gym was not nearly as crowded as usual and much quieter.

    Strange day, somewhat unfocused session.

Yesterday, like many other parents, I'm sure, I just wanted to hang with my kids. So, down to Salinas for a basketball tournament with my daughter for most of the day - Aptos High won the consolation bracket with a tight win over Pacific Grove. Then, my son insisted that we go see The Hobbit last night - If you liked the Lord of the Rings movies, I think you'll enjoy The Hobbit; good fun and a welcome return to Middle Earth.

Today, cold and rainy, not conducive to throwing. Thus, rack pull day at the gym.

    After warm ups:

    (lbs/sets/reps)

    135x2x5
    155x1x5
    185x1x3
    205x1x3
    225x1x3
    245x1x3
    255x1x2
    265x1x1
    270x1x1 - pr
    275x1x1 - new pr
    245x1x5
    225x1x5

Heavier traps than usual just because, ab work, and about 20 minutes of bike, elliptical, and recumbent bike to cool down.

Hey, hey, lookit THAT. I see "PR" in there.

The only problem with you getting to be such a monster here, is that y'all are gonna have to throw 'real big next season. As in....."I need to get stronger" isn't gonna fly! LOLOL

    Nice job on that PR!

Some folks have commented that the Hobbit is slow going. I'm still looking forward to seeing it soon. How I got through the weekend without going to see it is sort of beyond me.

Bench press this evening. I walked in the gym and snagged a bench immediately, so I did warm ups with the bar and several very light weight sets until I felt ready to roll.

    The sequence:

    (lbs/sets/reps)

    135x2x5
    155x1x5
    165x2x3
    175x2x2
    180x1x1
    185x1x1
    190x1x1 PR
    195x1x not quite
    135x1x10

I just missed 195; my spotter had to help when I stalled about halfway up. Next time. I'm sneaking up on two bills slowly but ever so surely.

Well, you got a PR out of the bench tonight and you were able to get the 195 off your chest, just couldn't press it out. That's something that will come with more reps.

    Good effort!

Thanks for noticing. I have been on a roll lately. On one hand, l'm surprising myself on a regular basis because in years past I never envisioned lifting with this sort of approach. On the other hand, the numbers I'm seeing now are the result of two years of establishing a lifting foundation, even though I wasn't really conscious of it during that period. After the first season, I started with the notion of getting stronger to throw better; and, I started at rock bottom. My focus was sharper after the second season and has evolved into what I'm doing now. I still catch myself thinking, "Who would have thought that I would be doing this..."
