Ya, but it would be nice to have the hat go well with the kilt... Although, a mexican sombrero might actually look alright with a kilt...
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Not that we ever get the sort of heat here in Scotland, that you get in your part of the world Ted. I have worn a Panama with the kilt in Western Australia before now and I think they went pretty well together.

Those are called 'boaters', but like the driver's cap (flat cap, touring cap, etc.), they probably have another name.

We used to have to wear "boaters" at school and they are awfull to wear and difficult to keep on.They are made of a dense straw and then seemed to be dipped in a glue that made them very dense and actually surprisingly heavy and with no "give" at all.Along with the Glengarry I would bannish the "boater" to the nearest fire.

I'm starting to think that what partly makes a hat of one sort or another go alright with a kilt is the accessories and shirt. For example, a saffari shirt with a panama hat or something like that. Someone on the forum was talking about wearing a pith helmet with their kilt a while back...

Nothing wrong with the bonnet - but the shoes are not as conventional as they could be... but so what? I get v bored with the kilt police, especially when they are blowing out of their backsides.
Generally people will bounce up and tell you what they have been told by the kilt salesman who is trying to sell an outfit.
The gentleman who said earlier that he only wears a bonnet when he is piping - good for him. I wear a bonnet when its cold - keeps my head warm! That's what its for.
The 'Eathen in his idleness bows down to wood and stone,
'E don't obey no orders unless they is his own,
He keeps his side arms awful,
And he leaves them all about,
Until up comes the Regiment and kicks the 'Eathen out.

The kilt police are toooo ambivolent to care. We only care that you are wearing the kilt and not pants.

Us old men have to do something to keep the sun off our noggins. Yes, I have been looking at the newsboy caps lately too.. and the flat/ivy/driving caps.
