Non-peat tasting- Glen Livet 18 yr. old
I had some Glen Livet 25 yr. Old on New Years. It's way too expensive, but my friend works for the company that distributes it. He referred to it as the "Holy Grail" of scotch. I must say that it is a valid statement after drinking a dram.

My daughter's boyfriend bought me a glass of Walker Blue Label over the holidays. That's a very special whisky, made better in the generosity, thoughtfulness, and comraderie of its gift. I gnerally drink single malt, but that drink I'll never forget

Currently it's Jura, the one with the Ankh on it. Very smooth, SLIGHT caramel finish with absolutely no feel as it slides into the belly.
Bladenoch 16 year old is also very good.

Greetings,
It may be the years have fuzzed my memory of it, it may be that the friends who gave it to me were near and dear or it may be that it was actually a good scotch that had a bad reputation from the elite scotch folks, but my favourite (and mind you I do not think there are bad scotches, just scotches I don't particularly care for) is a 10 yr old single malt black scotch called Loch Dhu.
It was a black scotch that had wonderful warm tones and a slight peaty flavour that went down smooth as silk. It is probably the only scotch I prefer to drink neat as opposed to with a splash of water or with a few ice cubes. You can't get it anymore except from online specialty stores I think, so I may never know if it was as good as I remember, but the memories of drinking it with friends and family are as clear as crytal.
So it may not have been the contents of the bottle that made it my favourite scotch, but the memories that came from that bottle are what made it my favourite.
With Greatest Respect,
Matt

Roughest scotch... this will either show elitist tastes, or a lack of them, but the roughest one I ever had was an aberlour 10. I must stress enough that I thoroiughly adore aberlour 12 \ 16, but the 10.......not, please no. Just too not matured enough yet.
On a related note. lagavulin. We recently got this one in the province and I can easily tell you that I love the flavor...but that's the te thing....it makes many other whiskeys taste like nothing :P

My Dad used to buy Loch Dhu years ago when you could get it around here, and it WAS damn' good. So dark you couldn't see through it! Would love to buy myself a bottle....
Edit: Whoa! Never mind. A bottle ordered on-line is 190GBP...!

I am surprised there has been so little endorsement of MORTLACH, which I particularly enjoy. I didn't go through all 15 pages, but only found one reference in the 8 or so that I looked at. It is not widely known, but the Speyside locals seemed to favor it when I asked.

I agree Mortlach is under appreciated likely becasue it is fairly hard to come by, at least in the states. I believe most of the distillery's product ends up in blended scotches rather than as distillery bottled single malts. I have a cask strength special bottling of Mortlach that is lovely, but I wonder if it is representative of the standard off the shelf Mortlach, which I have yet to come across in a liquor store yet.

The nicest that I've come across so far would be Bruichladdich 1972 'Legacy VI', It'll be a sad day when that bottle is empty.

I've really been enjoying The McCallan 12 year lately - love the peat! Other favorites include Bruichladdich and Laphroaig! Really... anything Islay will do... and if not, well, I've never said no nor didn't enjoy any scotch what has been offered to me - single malt or blend - as they all have such unique characters.
Participated in a scotch tasting this past Burns night... what a treat!
