Not sure exactly what it's properly called, and it may not be registered as a tartan pattern. It's Islay Tweed, woven by the Islay Woollen Mill on (where else?!?) Islay. Originally I got yardage for a great kilt, but after years of not using it I had Matt Newsome turn it into a 6-yard knife pleated kilt. If you want a kilt made from it, you could try here:

Just one quick question. What made you go with a sgian dhu for Claire rather than a sgian anclais, which is a bit bigger but probably more common at that time?
Thanks

I noticed that too. If I recall correctly, in the novel Diana Gabaldon makes it a definite dirk, with a "special access" clothing feature. The wee sgian dubh was a later, Victorian-era affectation.
Not complainin', just wonderin'.

If I remember correctly, there is mention of both Jamie and Dougal serving in a military campaign in France in the first book. The second book is set in France, as well.

Looks like Jamie's wearing something akin to a Postillion boot.

Really nice photo of Sam Heughan as Jamie here:
Probably the best still shot featuring his dirk I've seen yet, and it's pretty clearly this one:

I was thinking the same thing.
So his dirk is an ancestral hand-me-down from a century or so before. . .It's still an awesome photo. ;) And that dirk is quite capable of cutting a redcoat's weasand as was shown in episode 8: I had that model years ago when I and my ex came on a swan at a park where someone had driven into the midst of a flock of birds from the parking lot during the night, judging from the tracks. Spine damaged, it couldn't walk and was desperately hungry and thirsty. My lass gave it bread and water while I stood behind it, and it never noticed when its head went missing. We had a good cry after.
