I noticed they have that shirt in the "USAF" tartan. Been eyeballin' that one.

Two legs good......
I 'm sure I'm not alone in finding it preposterous that a female employee feels she has the moral right to tell an adult man what he may or may not wear to work. Even more shocking that this takes place in 'the land of the free'.
Ask yourself just what kind of litigation would ensue if a male manager in corporate U.S.A. decided unilaterally, to impose his personal clothing preferences and demand that all female employees turned up for work wearing skirts/dresses or face termination. Can you imagine the explosion of outrage that would ensue from the U.S. feminist/anti male lobby ?
Notwithstanding the need for prescribed clothing when undertaking certain types of work, the concept of the kilt supposedly being the cause of 'disruption' whilst being an entirely bogus and dubious argument in any case should never be accepted unchallenged. If a coworker gets himself/herself in a lather over the male form being dressed in a kilt - it's they who have the problems - and I would suggest fairly deep rooted problems. In any case, I can smell the whiff of personal issues combined with power abuse emanating from Riverkilt's unpleasant and laughably inappropriately titled 'manager'.
Thankfully, here in the U.K., there are several precendents in employment law which pretty much outlaw the kind of control freakery suffered by Riverkilt.
I loved the earlier suggestion that Riverkilt should suggest a ban on all
kilts, skirts etc. being worn by all employees.
Memo all of the staff on that one, step back a few paces and wait for the indignant howls of outrage from the gals.
Sadly, even in 2007, it seems the moral of the tale is that some are more equal then others....

Good for you RK! Glad that your common sense approach worked. I also recently worked out that I can wear a kilt with my dress mess Jacket to my unit's dining in this June. Just got the memo from the First Flag Officer in my chain of command that it is ok to do so. CR66

Congrats Herman, that's no small deal.
Imagine it may take years, like it did the ladies, to get kilts commonly accepted as part of dress codes. But we are gonna persevere and win out, just as the ladies did.

Thanks RK!
But the General is a Scot on his mother's side! Just getting the request forwarded was a task though. But as my Dad ( the Ol' SergeantMajor) said, "persistance and the right paperwork always get the job done! (plus a few favors on the side to the paperpushers) CR66

Go Figure!!??
The same lady that brought this on was cheerful today (I was wearing a black shirt, black kilt hose, USA Kilts casual Warrior tartan kilt and matching flashes)...she says she likes the tartan, that the kilt looks good, and that she REALLY likes the thingies on my socks and asks what they're called. I explained they were flashes.
Later, she brought a visiting dignitary by to meet me. In the course of the conversation the dignitary says, "Well, now I know what a Macdonald tartan looks like." Got to politely explain that this was a fashion tartan that I liked since it was purple and our agency did a lot of support for the local domestic violence agency that I'm also on the board of...and that I'd been embarrassed not to have a purple kilt for various events where wearing purple in support of domestic violence prevention was expected.
So, I'm confused, but happy by her apparent change of attitude.

Ron, I don't want to be a wet blanket here, but I would suggest caution with this woman. She's changed gears a little fast, and that indicates to me that she may have something up her sleeve that isn't too pleasant. I hope I'm wrong, but I've seen it happen before where someone gets nice to just set someone up.
Just my $0.02.

Aye, for sure have that in mind too, but for now taking it on face value...added to her public okie doakie think it gives some reassurance.
We shall see.

there is another possibility
Hey Riverkilt....
Mate, keep us informed - I'm still outraged on your behalf, but I want you to know you have support from all over the world (literally!).
There is another possible explanation for your supervisor's sudden change of attitude - perhaps *her* boss has told her to back off ... maybe even with some distinct "emphasis"?
Just a thought... keep up the good work!
cheers
