Phil,
Aren't you a fortunate man! If I had such access, I would actually start wearing hose instead of simply scrunching down socks!
Best wishes,
Jonathan

I have an artist in my studio that knits hose on a refurbished 1918 sock knitting machine.
She can also get highland hose knitted in the old Gairloch style knitted by hand.
Here are some samples of her work.
Cheers,
Phil

I think she charges $85. CAN for these beauties.
I haven't asked her yet but I'd like to have a pair of the Gailock hose that have a stage head in the open area of the design.
That style was highlighted in the portraits of the highlands Queen Victoria commissioned.

Spirit of Scotland kilt with dark blue button-up and flat cap, charcoal hose, and black sporran, belt, and boots. Looking back on it, almost exactly what I wore last week. Clearly, I'm a very creative person with my clothing choices.
Stopped at the hardware store - the cashier commented my outfit was "handsome". I was out and about a bit today, since more places are now doing curbside pickup, but that was really about it. As unusual as kilts are around here, I get very few comments. For anyone who's uneasy about wearing a kilt on a daily basis: put your mind at ease - nobody really cares.

Isle of Skye today with navy hose, solid green flashes (saw a picture of the Isle of Skye Pipe Band with this combination, and it really looked nice), khaki button-up and flat cap, and black belt, sporran, and boots. One of these days, I really need to get someone to help me get a picture. Anyway...aside from some "curbside pickup" stuff, I still needed some car repair supplies and groceries. With stopping in at just those two places, the following happened:
1. Nice kilt! Aren't you cold, though? (It was about 41°F/5°C and windy here today.) Not really - kilts are surprisingly warm.
2. Not five seconds later, was asked where my bagpipes were by another guy. Just kind of smiled and continued walking.
3. Conversation with a couple that went roughly as follows: If you're going to wear that, you should at least play bagpipes for us! No, sorry ma'am, I don't play the bagpipes, but I do play Celtic music on the piano. Well, that would work! Yes, ma'am, but a piano's just a little bit less portable. Fair enough!
4. Had a couple of young ladies walk past me in the grocery store giggling.

Today is the 75th Anniversary of VE Day. Therefore I am wearing my Royal Naval Association Tartan kilt, with my Uncles thistle cuff links, my poppy pin is the RNA version, my tie is the Army Benevolent Fund tie, my jacket and waistcoat are from 1931, my sporran is from the 1940’s and features a long link silver sporran chain.
We were discussing traditions and where they start recently, it is my contention that each of us can start traditions in our own lives. This outfit is significant for the day in that my Uncle was a 14 year old volunteer when he joined the Royal Navy during the war. I was named for him and he was like a second father to me. The year he died I had this kilt made in his honour.
