You mean I can't just go to the fabric store, buy a length of plaid material, wrap it around my waist and call it a Kilt?

What is this world coming to?!?!?

Actually, that's what I did for my first kilt.

It was Hallowe'en, and I bought five yards of plaid flannel, pleated the back, wrapped it around me, and grabbed a sword and went trick-or-treating.

There is nothing wrong with costumes. Just curious, what did you do with the flannel?

Sure! You can wrap a piece of plaid flannel, no pleats, around yer waist and then hang a f*nny pack (bum bag...whatever...let's not get into the UK meaning of f*nny, okay...been there, done that) around yer self and call it a sporran and thereby save lots of $$$.

You'll look like a schmendrik, but you'll have that much more to spend on beer and sausage rolls at the Ren Faire!

It now serves as my pyjama kilt. I wrap it up around me all snug and hop into bed and pull the covers up. Very warm and comfy on these cold Southern California nights*.

I rather like the little girl in the foreground of the picture. Do choose your hair bow to match your dress color. Do choose a dress color to compliment your tartan. Do look happy at the games. Do get a drink if it's a warm day... hydration is important to human beings!

What would be the alternative ?

Personally I think wellies work fine with a kilt.

I note that it costs $250... For that, you could have a quality real kilt.

I particularly like the argyle socks.
I saw something like that on clearance via an on line store called "scotsman in a box'. I think it even came with a mock-beer. It was the most horrendous thing. No wonder they were having to put it on clearance.
What was the creator of this abomination thinking and more important what was the business thinking in ordering any of them?
Well you won't find this muck in our shop and I would be hard pressed not to toss a bloke out if he had the gumption to walk into our coffeehouse in such a monstrosity.
