What do you do for a living?

I'm a financial accountant for a Fortune 500 natural gas company. I work in the retail division - we sell wholesale fuel to industry, school districts, municipalities and so forth.

In a perfect world, I would be able to make a living at something textile related - but my parents insisted that I get credentials in something that I could make a living at and support my family. Turns out that was a good thing! Being widowed in my 40s with a child still at home was hard enough without having to pack getting back into the workforce on top of it.

I've been with this company for 12 years now, and plan to retire from it. Good people there.

Curse the failing economy!!! I just got laid off. I've been working as a custom boatbuilder for the past 3 1/2 years and orders at my shop have finally dried up to the point that they could no longer support their workforce. Five out of six boatbuilders were let go. The last one left is only going to be around long enough to finish the remaining order and then he's gone. I'm really depressed. I live in Albany, NY so there isn't much prospect for finding another boatbuilding job. I suppose I'll have to start searching for a new career. It was fun while it lasted, however.

I'm still a gentleman of leisure. Been out of work for almost 4 months now. I was told that jobs were plentiful here in our new town, but that has not quite been the case. At least my wife found f/t work so we're not going to starve. LOL

No kidding! My husband passed away three years ago. My children are 11 and 12 now and I don't know how I make it some months. I've got a great mother who helps me and friends to give a huge amount of support.

I did have to rejoin the workforce after being widowed. I had a bad taste left in my mouth after the way I was treated by my office manager and a few of the staff when my husband died. But things always have a way of working out in the end. All in all, I made the right choice.

Trained as an electronics technician, I am currently working as a Service Foremen/Supervisor for a tower company. I get to work on everything from tower lighting and installation to TV/AM/FM broadcasting and troubleshooting.

They keep me around as long as I promise not to wear my kilt while climbing the towers.

I used to be a banker but made the full career change 2 years ago and now I run the trade show division of a media company travelling around the country putting on events.

Currently a graduate student (i.e. gentleman of NO leisure) 2 months from now I'll be an architect in Boulder designing hospitals, nursing homes and other related medical buildings.
