LOL, it wasn't meant as cold, really. I thought your comment about not voting for HRH Edward was fine as a stand alone comment, but the follow up, in response to Sandy's question, fell short of the mark, IMHO.

I tend to the irreverent myself and I do love me some Monty Python once in awhile (Holy Grail and Life Of Brian are favorites) but if it ain't funny it ain't funny. I usually enjoy your humor but even the funniest of us fall flat occasionally.

I thought it was funny. Like the saying goes.....Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they will never cease to be amused.

Oh, I agree with you there. I have always figured that those who do n ot laugh at themselves are just not paying attention. I find myself a constant source of amusement. Of course, I work with teenagers and they are ever eager to let me know when I need to laugh at myself!! At 53 I act more like a 17 year old then I did when I was actually 17.

Well I still don't see how it was funny. What is the joke?
Maybe this is a regional thing? You'd get blank stares with that line here in California.

Anyway, I am very glad Prince Edward got a chance to experience Scottish Games American style. I hope he enjoyed himself so much that he comes back again next year!

The President of Clan Sinclair USA put up a bunch of pictures on his website:
    http://www.clansinclairsc.org/greenvillegames2010.htm

I loved meeting Prince Edward and I loved seeing the Heralds. The only name I know is Romilly Squire but I think there were 4 or 5 there and they were wearing trews!

A very good games all around!

The joke is the irony that a Duke isn't elected, and now that it's having to be explained it has lost its humor.

Bottom line: HRH Prince Edward came to Greenville. He wore a suit, not a kilt. A few folks got to meet him. It was a pleasant day. Some of us have some nice pictures.

Tam, whilst I and others share your sentiments, in sheer terms of practicality it really wasn't possible on Saturday for HRH to attend two prior engagements before arriving at the games, change into a kilt, spend several hours at the games, change, attend two more events, and change again for a dinner that evening hosted by the president of Furman University. Sometimes, even with the best of intentions, one simply can't attend a Scottish event in a kilt. Somewhere McMurdo has a photo of me taken at the 2009 Loch Norman Games and believe me, I am anything but kilted (Glen, if you are reading this, feel free to post the picture for one and all to see). The reason? A four hour drive to attend a two hour meeting at the Games, then back in the car for another four hours to drive home.

Hopefully, if HRH Prince Edward returns to the Games his schedule won't be as hectic and he'll be kilted.

I for one didn't realize his schedule for the day.
Knowing that eases the 'pain' somewhat

    I remember that photo!
If I recall correctly Scott, the car in your avatar was also in the photo
