I am really sorry that you did not win, but you gave a good account of yourself, however in all honesty I am not surprised as I think the kilt is just too radical for the majority. In many ways I am glad that it is, as I would dread to think of what they might do to the kilt if it really went maintream, when I consider what they have done to a suit! Still give it another six months and the fashion pendulum will start to swing again and I will, perhaps, start to have an item of clothing, at least one, that will be in fashion----again.

As much as I don't WANT to agree with that statement.... I do. When things go mainstream they have a tendency to get twisted, turned, and perverted into unexpected ways. Then, if it ever WERE to become fashionable (in the mainstream), it would also then fade from fashion, and anyone kilted would then be seen as unfashionable and not keeping up with the trends (despite the fact that we would have been wearing kilts long before it was popular)...

As much as I love my Utilikilt, I hesitate a little to wear it these days, as it has "mainstreamed" itself into one of several odd subcultures, neither of which I really associate myself with.

Yup, couldn't agree more. Colin, you gave it an admirable shot. Well done! The world is not quite ready for the creativity and the extraordinary fashion trends of this forum. Kilt-on, my friend!

Oh dear oh dear oh dear. History repeating itself and playing games. Good insight Sushi based on good observation, Jock. Highland dress died out in its own culture in the 18th century to be revived as a fashion by a different class in the 19C to die out in the years following the Great War to be revived in the thirties as an urbanite fashion to die out in the mid-20th century to be revived as a wedding attire in the latter years of the century to die out as a daily dress in that same time frame to be revived by other cultures in other societies in the early 21st century.

I, too, am sorry you did not win, Colin, but you served yourself and the rest of us well. Thank you.

And you should be in bed at this hour, Jock, but I see your light is still on

Yes you are quite right Rex, bed does seem a good idea, but I am afraid the aches that seemed a minor inconvenience a few years ago are robbing me of my sleep and sadly my sense of humour!

I think this is way, way beyond people merely not being able to handle the kilt. This would appear to be about people being trendy and "current" based on the git that won. IMHO the "current" cuts and fashions just look absurd. I guess I'm old? Good. I like being old. With age comes wisdom and.....wait for it......GOOD TASTE.
