Never met or had any interaction with the man, the legend, but I have admired his dedication and his flair.
Hamish most certainly has my best wishes and regards during his current challenges and as long as he is with us.

The gentleman will always be with us.
Unfortunately my only interactions with Hamish was on this forum. He has always been a gentleman in all the posts, even those that would bring most of us to words.
I have thought of him over the years many times, and missed his posts, the wisdom and wit he shared.
My hopes are that he is kept without pain, as he goes through this time.
My regards and best wishes for Hamish.

Bernie, thank you for this update on Hamish. I was fortunate to met Hamish at The Gathering in Edinburgh in 2009. I host a XMARKS meet up of the Rabble at the Highland Games in Virginia where I convene my Clan's tent. At each one of them for more than ten years a ritual of ours at the meet up is to do "The Hamish". It is a crowd favorite with a many inquiry from the lasses, when are you guys boing to kick it up? Give Hamish my best regards. Thank you. Ern Malcolm

Like many of us who have been on Xmarks for any substantial length of time, I have been acquainted with the legend though his posts. In my case, I joined a mere ten years ago this month. Five months later, I attended the wedding of a good friend, who just so happened to be a MacDonald. My friend asked me to attend her wedding in June of that year, and to please be kilted. Since the wedding was scheduled for the afternoon, it was only natural to be in a kilt, tweed jacket, shirt and tie. My friend was a beautiful bride, and no one thought I was taking away from her day. Thanks to Hamish's inspiration I was glad to oblige her wishes, even getting a dance with her during the reception. One drunk lady did try to do a kilt lift, but I kept my cool. Later for my friends, I did my tribute to the legend, which was captured by camera for posterity. There have over the years been more events where I appeared kilted, and I owe it all to my correspondents on Xmarks, and of course, Hamish. Gentle sir. When the time comes for you to leave us on this plain, you will continued to live on in our hearts and memories. And many of us will of course have tales to tell those who follow us of the great Hamish Bicknell.
And from that afore mentioned wedding:

Hamish
I have never to the best of my knowledge met Hamish, though if he was at the Harpenden 2013 gathering I may have bumped into him and even have a photo of him without knowing who he was, but I certainly regarded him as a legend on this site and miss his contributions greatly. My best wishes to him for the time he has left and to his family and friends as I know what a difficult time it must be for them all, more especially under the current circumstances.
In his honour, a 2015 image.
Thank you for the update, Bernie.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!
