I've a pic somewhere (perhaps here?) of me with a low-hanging sporran, perhaps at the end of a dance.

And I'm really sorry to tell you all but: I really am comfortable in my ghillie brogues. And in my loose slip-ons. And in my custom-fitted walking boots. And my wellies.

And I have been photographed wearing a waistcoat and a belt.

What I am really saying here is -- give the lad a break!

He's wearing a kilt, for freaks sake, and he seems to be at comfort in it.

At least in the other photos Tennant is doing his own quirky takes on kiltwearing.

There are no great choices for me among his various outfits, but I think I prefer quirkiness over the straight-from-the-hire-shop look in the Original Post.

I didn't know he was Scottish!

I saw him on Graham Norton and I couldn't make out his accent.

Tennant put on an English accent for the role. Have the other Scots done?

In danger of coming off as a Doctor Who fan - I'm not - but apparently Tennant was asked not to use his natural accent as his predecessor in the role, Christopher Eccleston, had played the part with his strong Lancashire accent. Most of the earlier actors had spoken with Received Pronunciation - even Sylvester McCoy although you can hear a mild Scottish accent in the way he rolls his Rs - Peter Capaldi was the third Scot to take on the role, and the first to do so with a Scottish accent (barring an episode when Tennant visited Balmoral)...

To my old and traditional eye and in my humble opinion the "kilt hire shop" look is without doubt the absolute worst kilt attire look that is possible to have.

I have to agree with that.

By the way I was initially of two minds about what this thread was going to be about due to its ambiguous title, the reading of which depends on which missing words are imagined to be implied:

Dr Who knows that kilts rule over other sorts of clothing.

Dr Who knows the kilts rule that others don't know about.

    Dr Who and kilts

Forgive me if I am wrong but I seem to recall that Doctor Who had a companion in an early series who wore a kilt in a number of episodes. I think the character was called Jamie. So Doctor Who is familiar with kilts. I do not recall any controversy then (mid 1960s).

yes Jamie McCrimmon was with the second doctor, I don't think he ever wore anything else. That and I seem to recall Lethbridge Steward wore one at least once.
