On the very rare occasion that I deem it necessary (think, once in about fifty years) to have one of my two kilts drycleaned I remove my kilt pin for no other reason that the kilt pins are silver and belonged to either to my father or my grandfather. It would cause me huge grief if one got lost.
None of my three kilts have ever been drycleaned. One is new but the other two are around 15 to 20 years old and they seem fine.
About those kilt pins, I've heard so many horror stories of military medals and such being left on clothes sent to the drycleaner never to be seen again.
