    According to Wikipedia

"Tartan Day is a celebration of Scottish heritage on 6 April, the date on which the Declaration of Arbroath was signed in 1320. It originated in Canada in the mid-1980s. It spread to other communities of the Scottish diaspora in the 1990s. In Australia the similar International Tartan Day is held on 1 July, the anniversary of the repeal of the 1747 Act of Proscription that banned the wearing of tartan."

I don’t see a lot of action on this thread with tartan day so near. So if anyone around wants to get together Friday I would love to see you all. If I don’t hear from anyone I can be found at the claddagh in Geneva drinking scotch and showing the Irish how to wear a kilt.

The Declaration of Arbroath of course has absolutely nothing to do with tartan and was but a convenient date at a time of the year when there weren't too many other competing events/occasions.

It originated in Canada in the mid-1980s. It spread to other communities of the Scottish diaspora in the 1990s. In Australia the similar International Tartan Day is held on 1 July, the anniversary of the repeal of the 1747 Act of Proscription that banned the wearing of tartan."
The Act of Proscription was laid in 1746, the Dress effects only came into force on 01 August 1747 and even then only partially. I took another year before the ban on the wearing of the kilt etc., could be enforced universally across the Highlands. Of note, the wearing of tartan per se was never banned.

I apologize for not following up on this. I've been busy with family matters and work. I was going to suggest The Claddagh in Geneva on Randall Road. I will see you there!
