    i like your idea bear with the silver dollars...

    also your tip is great phil, it would the lost of the pin, but not that the closure would open when its loose, teh main reason for loosing our pins.

    in my short kilt time i had one of my pins having a loose closure, so i bent the needle with forceps in the direction needed, so that the closure got a tension from the bent needle, that until yet holds it perfectly on the kilt.

    I use an eraser of off a pencil, push the pin through the kilt once and add the eraser then push through the kilt and clasp close. If it comes loose the eraser keeps the pin from slipping off also the eraser keeps the pin from sliding so you don't get wear and tear on your kilt from the pin.
