I hardly know where to begin on all this...
1. I found this site through the statistics program at my weblog. I only just discovered it, but given the bad reception I've gotten here so far, I'm not sure how long I'll want to stick around.
2. I didn't mean to offend anyone by saying, "As always, gay men are the early-adopters of the fashion world--and the first of the fashion victims." I had no idea it would piss you people off, really.
3. Of course the Scots have been wearing kilts forever... I mean, duh. Yeah. But if you had been to any gay events lately, you would see how popular kilts are there. Like it or not, kilts are a lot bigger among gay guys than in the general population of straight guys, and I know enough of each to be really sure about this. When was the last time, at a non-Scottish formal-dress event, that you could see at least six or eight guys out of a hundred wearking kilts? The ONLY time I've seen it has been among gay guys.
4. No, I'm not trying to "claim" kilts for gay guys. In fact, I wish it weren't that way. I'm just observing something I've noticed, and if you don't like it... well, sorry.
5. About that quote again. It's not anything against you, or against gay people, or... sheesh, anyone. I'm not even sure why you're so offended by this statement, but I swear--I don't have anything against a) straight guys b) gay guys c) any guy in an unbifurcated garment. I don't hate you guys... so why all the animosity?
6. I'm not a left-winger. I'm a libertarian. I'd rather the government would just butt out of everyone's business.

Damn, am I the only one representing the not-incredibly far left out here?
Ok, first off (disclaimer, this is all my opinion, I speak not for anyone else), Kuznicki, I wouldn't blame you if you left right away, hell, I would too. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion (isn't that the whole point of this site? and the modern-day concept of a kilt?), so to be completely honest, I feel a bit hypocritical here.
Yeh, I understand it was your opinion, mostly, it was stated a bit "matter-of-factly", and I don't blame anyone for their reactions.
And lastly, (this goes for everyone) y'all are acting about as mature as the folks at my high school, at which we really do have a jock/band/(insert other stereotyped group here) division...
/end rant before I get going

This is very interesting. I get a lot of comments that were presented in the article all the time. Most of it is just curious discussion, and if it is asked in a way that is not to ridicule, I usualy answer the curiosity. We all have our ideas of why kilts are popular with us, and I must admit that I like to have that "sexy" edge to where both male and female are struck with Wow I wish I could look that sexy.
I disagree with myself at times, and I know I disagree with some of you, but we all our smart intelligent people here, that we can argue and still be friends.
I have many friends on the far right and many on the far left, but we do respect each other in a civil manner. This is where I see this discussion going, just some comments that we may or may not be in agreement with.
This just shows that we are humans in thought, and I feel that we as a forum are better than bickering.
Please understand that all of you are very important to me, and I do not want to offend any of you, my heart would be empty if that happened. Please discuss things as the gentlemen we are.
PEACE

By reading the brief "bio" at the beginning of the article, let me enlighten you to the facts.

Uh, dude... you apparently have NOT been to a kilt night.
The stuff that the women in the joints pull on us would garner stiff fines if we reciprocated. As for the elevators... it's been done. As for the wandering hands... it's been done. Somewhere out there are a few pictures of Bridal parties that went wild. If you would like to research the article from all angles and facts, we would be MORE than happy to enlighten you with facts.
As for the "alternate lifestyle" folks leading the way in fashion... that's pretty much undeliable. Hell, when virtually ANYTHING is worn... the chances of something catching on is pretty good. Let's see just how many attempts have failed miserably while we're at it.
This is not to debate the story, but rather to add some different and documented perspective to it. Kilts are not a modern "alternative lifestyle" find... but a continuation of a heritage and tradition that some have decided to bastardize in the name of fashion freedom. That last statement is just as viable as the ones that were stated in the article.
It's all a matter of perspective and experience until both sides are meshed into a cohesive and truthful exchange. Try merging both and you'll have an article.

Well put Jimmy, that's what I wanted to say also (but I wasn't clever enough).
Phil, altho' I found the carnal emphasis of the article offensive, I am glad you posted the link, it was quite an education and makes me think we live a rather sheltered life in Tassie
There are some sad views out there!

Ok, I'll tell all my friends who aren't Scottish to stop wearing them, and I'll be sure never to wear one myself. Obviously I'm not welcome in your little club.
Sheesh. What's with you people?

I have no problem with it.
I think if gay men wearing kilts makes them (kilts) more popular then so be it.

I believe someone has rather thin skin.
Every one of us will have an opinion on the matter, whether it agrees with your outlook or not. I tend to side with Jimmy's opinion here.
The idea that kilts are a "gay" find is ridiculous. I don't have a problem with gays, I've had a few gay friends; but do I have a problem with false or unresearched statements. Of all the various kilt boards I belong to I only know of a few gay men in the membership. Methinks that tends to skew your results a little bit.

No, it's not. At least in my area (metropolitan Washington, DC), kilts are very popular among two groups: gay men and those who have strong ties to their scottish heritage. Aside from that, they still seem quite rare.
I merely wrote what I saw, and I'm sorry to have offended you. But I repeat my earlier observation: How many kilts do you see at a typical black tie event outside Scotland? Among the gay community it's perhaps several men per hundred. How many is it among straight guys?
