    Ah, now if we are talking of pushed down hose and boots, the effect can be a little different and the dark coloured hose can work well.

    I frequently wear black kilt hose, pushed/rolled down, with black boots. This can emphasise the calves and, at the same time, make the boots look a little bigger.

    I agree with Hamish about the sense of balance. However, that is exactly why I tend to wear more dark hose. Reason: I have a slight frame, as a result thin legs, and I find that the dark hose, my favourites are bottle green and black, give the more masculine "look" that I want to project.

    One needs to stand in front of the mirror and take a critical look. Also, check out the galleries and see what you like. What is your "image"?

    I have been heeded the balance advice (thanks Ham), it really does make a difference. It keeps me from being a rather stand out kind of guy to one who really has it together
