this has been brought up a few times before.for 1 kilt made in your own design and registered would cost over $1000

I give the XMarks kilt pin as evidence. It was talked about many times and finally Hank was able to find someone to produce the pins. Now, the rub! We could not get 50 members to purchase a 25USD pin.

...and not everyone was able to afford them right after the holidays. And now we learn it's limited edition, so those of us who really wanted to order one, but were given a deadline we couldn't meet, are out of luck.

Guys, this wouldn't have to be as expensive as one would think. I just had some custom cloth woven up for a friend of mine by D. C. Dalgleish in Selkirk. They have a minimum order for custom tartans of 4 yards. I ordered a 5 yard length of cloth for him, 15 oz per yard, 28" wide. Our cost is 17.08 pounds per yard. Figure a rough 2:1 exchange rate with the pound now, and he's spending about $170 for five yards.

That's more than enough for me to make him a box-pleated kilt.

The fellow that I'm learning to make kilts from usually charges $220 for making the kilt. So add that up and you have a kilt for $390, tailor made, in a unique tartan. Figure some extra money for shipping, but all said and done you are still spending around $400 -- still less than your average 8 yard knife pleat kilt in any medium weight stock tartan.

Hi all

I can second the vote for D.C. Dalgliesh. I've had them do 5 or 6 custom weaves for me, and they do _beautiful_ work. They're also one of the only mills that will actually weave a single kilt length piece of custom tartan at a reasonable price.

I know some folks in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, who worked with Dalgleish to produce the Arkansas State Tartan back in the late 90's, and they were impressed with their customer service.

As far as recording the tartan, the STA charges 75 pounds to record a corporate/district/commemorative/fashion tartan for a STA member, and 100 pounds for non-members.

I just happen to have 100 yards of a nice blue fabric.
See the fabric choices on my site. Royal Blue or Glacier Blue.

Add two rear double welt pockets.
Add two side slash pockets.
Add the X Marks logo to the back pocket flap.

Add an X Marks pin to the front.

Made in my new model with 1" pleats. 8.15 yards of fabric on average.

Total cost $305.00 cdn or $244.54 usd

If Hank authorizes the use of the X Marks Logo I can talk to my embroidery girls.
