Thanks guys, I say that as my head is cocked downward and my leg is kicking the dirt. I really don't know what to say, except I am just being my self. I really do not have any favorite lass at the coffee shop either side of the counter, they are all lovely. To be fair to others that give me compliments, many of the guys say very positive things also, so it not just those of the female persuassion.
Now as far as the digital camera, I have it narrowed down to two, yes two, so you guys will eventually get to see my mug in a MUG. I may just surprise you with my stealthiness
As far as how I do it, you guys are all my inspiration I wear it because you guys are kilted in thoughts and deeds, it is way cool 8)

Glen,
Just like computers, if you wait for the perfect digital camera you'll be waiting forever. Just pick one that suits your needs and go for it, you won't regret it.
PS, I recommend any Canon.

Not going down the balding path yet, but do we need to talk about greying?

Glen,
Glad to have been of service!
However, as I'm one already grey and already pretty bald guy, I have to say that I believe you would have gained that young charmer's approval anyway.
Of course, there are times and places when more formal and traditional approaches to the way we look are appropriate but, on a day-to-day basis, I believe fervently that a colour co-ordinated, tidy and clean casual look takes some beating ...... and you just proved it! Well done, matey!

Not quite true, Aaron. I think it was probably around mid-2002 that I discovered what a huge difference it made to my appearance by folding, or rolling, the hose down, instead of simply pushing them down. The latter is, as you say, "sloppy" and I don't 'do' sloppy anymore - I've too much self-respect and respect for those I am seen with. 8)
I have to agree that I like the look. It's not sloppy, but still completely casual.

Hamish, when we meet in London will you take me shopping for socks?
seriously Glen (and hamish) I could probably do with focussing more on co-ordinating colours than i do.
I tend to wear mostly black or green shirts, but I need to become more creative with colour.
Hamish, with say, a Stewart Hunting (or Scottish national, just ordered from Rocky)and Morrison Ancient (like Ancient Gunn)....what colour shirts would you say goes well?
Sorry Glen, I should make this a seperate post.

I'd be delighted Graham, but I suspect they are not sold at Kew Gardens!

As should most of us Graham!

First of all, Graham, I'm ashamed to admit that I do not know the "Scottish National" tartan, nor can I trace it!! However, with the Stewart Hunting and the Morrison Ancient, my suggestions would be pretty similar for both.
The art of selecting the 'right' shirt is in actually finding an exact colour match - a fairly close one usually just will not do. You might look as though you'd tried, and failed!!
As a rule of thumb, what works best is a shirt colour that will pick up the least obvious colour in your tartan. In the case of Stewart Hunting, this would be the yellow or red but, if you feel these are just too much for 'you', then the blue would work well. Avoid the green in this instance as it is the dominant colour in the tartan and a matching shirt would be just that bit too much - unless, you are wearing something like a neutral-coloured waistcoat or gilet over the shirt, which would break that solid block of green. I would avoid a black shirt with this tartan as, together, they present a very 'heavy' look, and a rather sombre one at that.
With the Morrison Ancient, the above suggestions pretty much apply, but you could include the green as an option here since it and the blue are evenly distributed across the tartan - neither dominates. Red would be best since it is the least obvious colour in the tartan. Again, I would avoid the black.
If all else fails, and it frequently does for me in spite of my huge collection of plain-coloured shirts , get yourself some beige or oatmeal shirts. They will go well with virtually any darkish tartan (except mainly those with a lot of yellow in them), especially the blue/green ones and most of the reds - as will the same colour hose. In fact, wearing beige shirt and hose together will highlight and draw attention to the tartan kilt - but it does not work too well with other colours!
Teaching my grandmother to suck eggs, I would just add the importance of wearing plain, self-coloured shirts with tartan kilts. Our shirts should compliment the glory of our kilts, not fight with them.
For further guidance and information, please refer to page 4003 of my, as yet, unwritten book.
