I am with Bear on this - perhaps because our paths have been pretty much in parallel. I was kilted, full-time kilted, some years before Hank came along with "X Marks...." - but that does not mean that I am any the less grateful to him. He has done a FANTASTIC job in providing us all with this space in which to gather, socialise, discuss, seek advice and learn. Apart from gaining many new friends since coming here (and I sincerely mean that), I'd say that "X Marks ...." has given me a 'focus' I'd not previously had.
Bear has already told you that it was because of the encouragement I received from the guys who frequented "Tom's Café" almost seven years ago that I subsequently came into full-time kilting and got rid of my trousers - all of 'em. As I have done here, I made many really good and lasting friendships through the times I spent at my table in the corner of the Café (beside the potted Palm!), and so I still have an affection for the place which, like Bear, I still visit, but not daily. Yes, the clientele there has changed somewhat over the years - "X Marks ...." drew quite a lot away - but a lot of kilted brethren still stop by for a beer or an Espresso!
"X Marks ...." is always my first port of call and I'll visit the other places only if I have time to spare, which is infrequently the case.
Thanks again Hank, and lang may your lum reek!
