I wear a beret with my kilts quite a bit, tried a glengarry but didn't work for me. I wonder, how would a good bowler look with a kilt and a charcoal grey daywear jacket?

I wear a black beret with mine all the time, and I have a UN beret I wear sometimes, but not too often lately.

I really love my irish cap with the kilts though, and fitted skull caps look really good too.

Hmm.. just to clarify I should say all the above are with my Utilikilts, which have a rather different appearance than a traditional. Still, I'd bet all the same applies.

I guess every Marine on this board that ever darkened the gates of Camp Lejeune knows Siagon Sam's. Last time I was in they had a good selection of standard issue, lined black and green (Army), maroon (Air Force) and the light blue (UN). They also had several other types of seemingly good quality, tiger stripe comes to mind though the ones I saw weren't wool.

If anyone would like me to check again, PM me and I'll make it a point to stop by. Also, Ft. Bragg is only a couple of hours away and I pass through there at least once a month.

I usually wear an Irish style "8 panel" hat. I also have 2 Basque beret's (navy & black) That I wear quite often.

If you like the military beret look, but want something lighter for summer, I would suggest a lightweight Kagol Monty. I have one in black, as well as a navy blue Kagol scully in the same material.

    Yes, I like hats.

I really like hats as well. Some folks just don't
like to wear them and that's cool but I very much
like them. I've got a rather extensive (and growing)
hat collection. Fedoras, Irish and English tweed "flatcaps", Panamas, a cowboy hat, the usual ballcaps and yes, several Balmorals and Glengarries.
If someone is not comfortable wearing one that's cool
but I think more men need to rediscover hats. They are a very cool accessory.

I always wear hats or caps of some sort. Helps keep the hair out of my eyes, or the sun out. Stetsons, baseball caps, welding caps, Panamas, Greek fisherman, most anything other than stocking caps.

Most recently, I've been wearing a black military beret. At the moment, we are trying to find some 2" white grosgrain ribbon to make a white cockade to go behind my Masonic Crest Badge.

Doc, just cut strips of white fabric and hem around the edges. Might be faster than trying to find the ribbon

2" white grossgrain ribbon should be easy
to locate at any large-ish fabric/sewing store.

Also have a beige Kangol I wear (reversed so the logo is in the front) in the summer. I need a nice blue or tan kilt to wear with it this year.

Military-style berets do look sharp. Actually, the military-style beret is the coolest looking thing a man ever wore on his head.

The comment about the X Marks pin on the beret got me thinking....

For formal wear, why not wear a military-style beret with a traditional kilt? This isn't exactly orthodox, so of course one would have to be careful about coordinating the beret with the rest of the outfit.
