Hey, I'm the one who started that other thread. I got in touch with the local guy, but it seems he started his chapter as a way of getting together with his military friends, and at the moment, all other members are out of the country; he also said that being kilted wasn't necessary, that some members don't even have kilts. He hasn't said it expicitly, but I kinda' get the impression that he wants to keep it a close, military oriented membership. I mean, he's been friendly an all, but he hasn't exactly extended a hand, if you know what I mean.
If that's the case, I can respect that, but it would kinda' argue for another local chapter. From what I could gather from the web sites I looked at, the general idea is to be able to associate with like-minded men who believe in patriotism, support of the military and the masculine ideals that are traditional to the military, in particular the Scottish regiments, and who view the kilt not as a costume, or simply a symbolic gesture of respect to the warrior ethos, but also as a suitable garment for casual everyday wear.
