That would be a spray to protect kilts against Scots? Hmm..

Me too, Alan! In tweeds, worsteds and poly-wool blends.
Maybe it's my age, but I always believed billiards/pool tables to be covered in baize fabric - a sort of fine felt.

Anyone know how to order the cloth, though? Seems like the site was just giving information about the cloth that you can get on your pool table. What about ordering the cloth itself? Any sources? My brother-in-law would love an olive green kilt.
Aye,
Matt
A kilt built from this material would have to be hemmed... yes?

If you use a precut kit, yes. But the cloth that comes off a bolt is selvedged on both sides. It really is an interesting option. I've been scanning the web for cloth and the best I've found is a half bolt (30 -35 yards x 66") of 19 oz for about $18.00/yd. I just don't need that much
I have an Uncle-in-Law that sells this stuff so I need to see if he can make me a deal.
The cheap stuff is very "nappy" and fuzzy but the mid to high end stuff is very smooth. You figure it has to be to allow the ball to role true.
I added a scan of a piece with the selvedge in my gallery. Forgive how fuzzy it looks it has been in a pile of scrap I use to line wood cases.
How much of this cloth would I need to get my hands on to have enough for a 4 yd kilt. One site I looked at said about 14' x 53". Would that be for a 8 yard kilt or a 4 yard?

Cav,
It sounds from your description that the material comes off the bolt 54" wide. That means if you want a 4-yard kilt, you only need to get 2 yards off the bolt.
Is the stuff your Uncle-in-law sells the quality worsted wool, or the felted wool-blends that I've seen offered on some billiard table sites?
Let me know if he can get you a price on yardage.
Aye,
Matt

Is that a plain weave? The selvedge looks very different from the rest of the fabric.
I think a hem would be appropriate..

Just 2 yards is awesome. This might be an affordable alternative for solids.
The simonis cloth he carries is very nice and smooth. I'll need to do some comparing to see if the Championship cloth is a more economical match. He would probably be willing to order whatever we need but typically only stocks the darker greens and burgundy. It doesn't takelong to get most of the cloth. I use to order it during the week and have it by Monday or Tuesday of the next week. I'll see what he can do.
Beerbeque, You may be right on the hem. I've never seen a selvedge on a traditional so I have no comparison there.

Matt, I dropped a sample of this fabric in the mail to you today. I'd love to have your insight about the potential for a decent kilt. Thanks in advance.

Now, I have seen a lot of discussion about the difference between Scot and Scotch. It seems to me that the product, Scotchguard would be more to protect your kilt from Scotch whiskey. But, come to think of it, What Scotsman would spill one drop of fine single malt on his kilt?

I can see it now. Some one is bound to want a real Maple Leaf Kilt!
