KiltedHunstman, it seems a lot more justified, since they are a specialty item, like with rock climbing shoes, you'd better be willing to drop the cash for those...

True, I think as a society men aren't supposed to have much diversity in the clothing department, and we arent supposed to spend much on them either. (Unless you have a TV show where you remake men into metrosexuals, in which case you spend lots of money on items that look slightly different than things you already own.) But women need to stand out. Its why men's tuxedos have maybe 3 things you can really change the colour on. Otherwise we look like we just are made from the same press. Women have to all look unique.

A comment that came up last night that taps into the diversity of women's wardrobes, as I found out I own a same tartan kilt as Magnus:

"If a woman comes to a social event and finds that she is wearing the same dress as another woman, its bad enough. But if a bloke is wearing the same tartan as another man, you'd have to kill yourself! (usually by inducing liver failure while drinking to family! :P )
"I don't know what to say to anyone and as soon as I open my mouth they'll say, Oh, you're Irish, and I'll have to explain how that happened." - F McCourt
