When I was in high school (twenty years ago), we had a dress code that specified no shorts. One week in early May the temperatures were in the very unseasonably high 90's. The administration still wouldn't allow shorts, so on Monday morning the entire football team showed up in skirts. This was an amazing thing in a small country farm town but not specifically against any rules.
I wonder sometimes if any of the old football players have moved to kilt wearing.

I wore mine today to college for the first time. Not a blink. Mind you it is Spring Term and there aren't many students on campus.
One woman I know from the administration (I was very active in student government until this semester which is my last, so they all know me) asked if I wasn't a bit chilly (weather is crap right now) because I wasn't wearing hose (sport ankle socks and runners).
The only other comment came when I was in the faculty offices and my department chair asked what the occasion was. When I said there wasn't one, i just felt like wearing it, she said she always suspected if more men understood the comfort and convienience off skirts. I think that was a good thing lol.

That is great to hear, it truly is great for men to wear kilts, I know I have heard that comment more than once!

Congrats, Nevermore. It never occurred to me to wear a kilt at your age, and I regret that.
As for a Scottish tartan kilt - do not worry about offending anyone as long as you respect the kilt and it's tartan. Treat it as a garment you love, and not as a costume, and you'll be ok. Be prepared to tell people what tartan you're wearing, and do not be afraid to say you chose it simply because you like it.
I'll let you in on something I have not shared on a message board before - had I not found a district tartan that suited me, I was fully prepared to buy a kilt in whatever tartan most closely approximated the colors of the New York Jets. I might do that, yet, one day.

tartan...
Nevermore, there is a Georgia state tartan which you could choose to wear:

Anyone may wear a state, provincial or district tartan, regardless of heritage. I like to see folks wearing state tartans, and the Georgia tartan is quite striking, and a nice conversation starter when folks ask what tartan you're wearing.

Georgia tartan...
Here's a photo from the Scottish Tartan Museum's web site of a gentleman in a Ga. tartan kilt:

The more I see it, the more I like it! According to a couple of sources, the tartan is based on the Goverment sett, otherwise known as the "Black Watch tartan", to honour the Scots brought to the colony of Georgia by Sir George Oglethorpe to serve as a military "buffer" between the British colonies & Spanish Florida.

Testosterone
You made my day Nevermore. So heartening for this old bird to know that testosterone is alive and well in the younger generations.
Stand tall, walk with pride, put a little swing in that kilt laddie!
Was at a cancer Walk-A-Thon in my camo UK last weekend. Some young men about your age came up to me with eyes wide and made very positive comments about the kilt. Dare we hope for a new fashion trend for youth??

Good on ya, mate!
The pressue to conform in High School is brutal. Even when you try to not conform, you have to "not conform" the same way everybody else "doesn't conform".
Go your own way, guy. You don't have to be obnoxious about it and punch everyone who looks ar you funny, but just make up your own mind and do what seems right and best to you. It'll pay off in ways you'll never dream possible in years to come.
